Since signing up in December 2025, after I installed a FoxESS 42kwh battery, I have watched the Amber team learn about my system usage and help optimise my battery and electricity costs. My first bill during this 30day learning period was a credit of $100 !! And well into the second month I am in credit again.
Comments: the dynamic nature of wholesale pricing changes every 5 minutes, and Ambers algorithms takes advantage of this (and also curtails when the FIT goes negative). I needed to have my battery installer update the firmware in my FoxESS system for curtailment to work well. This isn’t well documented by Amber (let’s face it is really a Fox issue). Since updating the firmware the Amber algorithms have been great.
The Amber team have an impeccable offering and they appear to be growing quickly with many new staff. This is needed.
I am now at the stage of understanding what why offer and how the control my system, and hence I can now leave it to Amber, to operate my system. Thanks.
Just switch to Amber setting up takes a little while using smartview hopefully we have do e the right thing fingers crossed their support team have been fantastic help highly recommend just have patience and it works out
Maximised the use of my solar and battery potential. Easy app. Smart shift tops up my battery automatically at cheaper periods when solar production is inadequate. Overall very glad I switched. Nearly one year in.
Terrible experience, with zero communication from Amber Electric. Obviously a company focused on signing up customers but provide little to no support if there are any issues or concerns.
If you decide to go with Amber Electric all I can say is good luck … you may well need it.
I switched to Amber after getting a solar system with batteries installed. The entire sign up process was flawless, and my system was being controlled by SmartShift within a couple of days. I have had no issues so far, and going by their app, have saved substantially compared to my previous provider.
We've been with Amber for around 3 years and as our solar and battery capacity has grown, so has our appreciation of Amber.
Our combo of battery and solar hardware works very well with Amber and means we are able to leave Smartshift handle things 95% of the time - and it continues to improve.
Amber for EV's has been more of a mixed bag, and hasn't worked out for us, but I can see the value for others - especially as it continues to improve.
If you have batteries (with or without solar) that work well with Ambers software, I strongly recommend that you give them a try.
Thanks to the installation of solar panels and a battery, combined with Amber's algorithmic approach to the wholesale electricity market, we are now in credit instead of debit with our electricity bills on a monthly basis. Customer service has been great, and their app works really well. Thanks Amber for providing a great pathway for households to take part in the renewable energy revolution.
Value for money because it gives you control on when you spend the maximum energy needs daily. The App shows you the cheapest time frames to be using solar and mains electricity. I use that and turn notifications on, as a guide. Love the smooth pay system of billing also, capping payments.

Although the solar input system from my solar panels to my batteries is manipulated in favor of the providers, I only received a small bill for January. I found contacting Amber through email very easy but would still like to contact a Amber rep by phone.
I have been with Amber for just over a year. I have a 5kw system with a Tesla battery. My solar system is very efficient and solar and my battery runs > 90 % of my power needs. At first I was getting negative monthly bills and then mid year I received a letter from Amber saying that there was an error with their algorithms and that I owed them $100's. I disputed this with figures to support my argument and heard nothing. In recent months I have again disputed a bill which should have been much lower and once again I sent a spreadsheet of daily costs according to the Smart app. I all I get back is a standard apology that they can't attend to my matter. To cap it off on a recent fiercely hot day when prices spiked to $35 kWh I had a full battery and earned $45 in the evening. The next day this had disappeared from my Amber records, showing that I earned only a few dollars.
I am planning to report this to the appropriate Ombudsman and find another supplier. Amber has zero service if you encounter an issue and they have ripped me off. Stay clear of these cowboys.
