I want to share my experience with American Forces Travel so others can make an informed decision.
I booked a hotel reservation through their website and, due to a schedule conflict, needed to cancel the same day. My cancellation was well within the terms of their stated cancellation policy. To make sure everything was handled properly, I called their customer service directly. The representative verbally confirmed that my reservation had been cancelled, and I relied on that confirmation.
Unfortunately, the cancellation was never processed, and my credit card was later charged for the full amount.
When I contacted American Forces Travel to resolve the issue, they stated they had no record of my call. I provided my Verizon phone records showing the exact date and time of my calls, but they still denied ever receiving them and would not take responsibility.
What is most disappointing is the lack of accountability and trust. If I had missed the cancellation window, failed to call, or simply not shown up, I would accept the charge. But being told directly that the reservation was cancelled — and then being charged anyway — reflects very poorly on their customer service and internal processes.
I served in the military my entire career, and this was my first time using a travel service that markets specifically to military personnel. Based on this experience, I do not recommend booking through American Forces Travel and would strongly advise others to proceed with caution. I would not trust their customer service or rely on verbal confirmations.
This experience felt dishonest and has completely eroded my confidence in doing business with them again.

I used AFT recently and I learned they use the Priceline platform. My recent experience wasn't great. The airline made an unexpected change to our travel and from that point on it was a disaster. They charged fees for every little change you make even if it was the airlines fault. I ended spending about $600 dollars more for the change of airline tickets. I don't plan to use AFT ever again. I believe they don't look out for veterans even AFT is suppose to be use as a travel tool do veterans.
Worse company ever miltary stay away!!! Waste of money and time! Wish I would have seen the reviews before I added this to my trip! Had to shorten my trip and info they asking for is ridiculous! Clearly if I left early it was for a good reason! Especially where I was! Scam
0 stars here When I made hotel reservation, i missed it was through priceline. SHAME ON ME!!!Credit card showed charge for nov. 4th, should have been for nov. 9th. Also showed wrong city for hotel . I disputed the charge because of the errors on my credit card statement I owe the charge i attempted to contact priceline. You cannot speak to a live human being. Better luck talking ro the devil!!!If the credit card charge had been charged to rhe correct date and city of hotel there would be no dispute Armed forces travel made this veteran look like an idiot to my credit card company I had not used priceline for several years because of them ripping me off!! Stay away from Armed forces travel for hotels you can do better booking through choice hotels, (ie) as a leisure veteran
I called the hotel to confirm the actual room booked through Armed Forces Travel and found it was a 1 Queen bed room instead of a 2 Queen Bed minisuite that I booked and retained printed documentation. Upon calling AFT customer service, they could not resolve it with their booking agent, so upchanneled within Priceline to resolve in a few days through e-mail. I continued to be disconnected and could not resolve, so I cancelled the hotel reservation--too much trouble.
Welcome to USA where its government officials claim they take care of their veterans. Believe that, and you'd likely seen an ice berg in Miami in July too. These companies from insurance, financial groups, travel, retail, and even automobile dealerships etc. all make claim they support veterans with their discounts but truth be known they do not fulfill their promise no different than US Defense department et al. They mislead public with that word "veteran" only to generate greater prospects for more sales which leads to additional profits likely not to had occurred with tricky wording. It's germane to getting a letter in mail from some bank you've done business with in past with ideaology you're going to get free money from their tricky letter. Deposit $300 before (date), and earn additional $300 bonus on us; except ones don't normally read that fine print where either longterm monthly deposited must be made, direct deposit required, or must meet some off-the-wall action to meet that freebie. Truth is simple, if you are happy with who you bank with then stay with that bank, believe it nobody is going to give you anything for "free" because an action you thought was honorable later results in a trick, especially if you become injured later from such trick. Read the fine print such as found near naval bases - NAVY - "Never Again Volunteer Yourself" - that message holds truth because those who make promises for your volunteered time means nothing other than they've just made another sell, and who suffers later if become injured? You do.
Forget changing your plans if you use American Forces Travel. They will charge you almost the full amount of any purchase to cancel and increase the cancellation fee the closer you are to your travel dates. Their travel coverage is a joke and only covers you if you lose your luggage or are sick. There is no way to contact the company through e-mail and their automated system is slow. If you are military or a veteran don't waste your time with this website. It is a scam.
This agency uses "partners" which you are not allowed to approve in advance. Meaning, I was passed from American Forces Travel, to Priceline and then to Agoda. Needless to say, I did not know who to contact in the event of a problem. In the process, I also lost the ability to have a refundable rate. And, generally was ignored.Their contact email is NOT functional and returns as undeliverable. It might actually be the world's worst travel company and you have nobody to complain to except for your credit card company to dispute the charges. You certainly will NOT get to speak to a person in this company. In fact, I think it is a phantom company and it only exists as something like a "drop-shipping" company on Amazon. A company that advertises, but outsources everything to other companies and provices the worst service possible and nobody to even call and complain to.I am in the process of cancelling all of my reservations for the next 6 weeks of travel and I am rebooking directly with the hotels. Otherwise, the hotel will not even attempt to resolve your problems or make changes since this semi-non-existent company has no working email or telephone number
Just completely frustrating dealing with garbage customer service. How this site is allowed to service the military is a joke. We booked a hotel in Florida for 3 nights and it stated free cancelation up to a couple days prior. Which was a month away. We never received a confirmation email or anything. They did however charge us immediately! Trying to cancel was a hassle as they said there is no record of me booking anything. All they could say was talk to your bank. Now it is going to take possibly 10 days to dispute the charge. Just because a few people my have been lucky using this site, I wouldn't chance it! I definitely will never use it again!
