Review Time
We bought a second-hand Campal Outwell a few years ago, which didn't quite fit our VW Caddy Maxi Life, but was very useable and we quickly fell in love with it and the facilities it gave us.
The kitchen is great to cook at and doesn't fill the van with cooking fumes; the bed is a really good size and very comfortable; there is a table, seats and plenty of storage all within a micro camper. Most of all I love lying on the 'chaise lounge' gazing out of the open tailgate - it is my special place!
After trying it out for a couple of years we decided to have a 'bespoke' unit made, which would incorporate the ideas we'd developed in the time we had been using it.
We went along to Campal in early January. Our ideas made for quite a complex unit which would give us a lot of flexibility in the way we could use the van.
We sat and chatted with Martin, for a couple of hours, talking through our ideas. It was great fun and we felt able to mention everything we had considered. Martin was incredibly patient interpreting these ideas and getting them down on paper. It was so exciting to see our ideas taking shape.
While careful measurements were made of our van, we enjoyed tea and biscuits and chatting with Lisa about their company, which they are obviously very passionate about.
Fast forward about 3 weeks. We arrived for the fitting and collection of our new unit. I had found the drawers difficult to open, as I have arthritis in my hands, but Martin had redesigned the way the drawers open and, with his modifications, I could manage them easily.
It was amazing to see our ideas now a reality. Martin had put in a huge amount of work to check that everything fitted and worked in the way we had imagined, which was quite a tall order because it was a complex design.
We'd decided to use their engraving service and, having been fans of the "Love is...." cartoons of the 1970's, commissioned Martin to engrave "Love is....a Campal made for 2!" This was not without its issues because I wanted a particular font, which wasn't on Martin's system, so he took the artwork I had sent and carefully transferred the outline onto the kitchen drawer. I think it took him about 4 hours!! It was perfect.
The unit was fitted in a couple of hours and the finishing touches made, such as deciding where the table should be fitted and the best position for the seat back.
Martin, who is a bit of a perfectionist decided some small modifications needed to be made and these were quickly done by the team before we headed home as proud owners of our dream Campal unit.
The weather has been appalling since then, but we managed to get out for our maiden voyage on Saturday and enjoyed sitting in our van, cooking dinner in the kitchen, sitting and eating at the table, lounging on our 'sofa' and watching the world go by. We can't wait to use it more when the weather is a bit warmer.
I would thoroughly recommend Campal. The materials and build quality is excellent; Martin, Lisa and the rest of the team are brilliant: very skilled, efficient, helpful and rightfully proud of their product. Nothing is too much trouble and Martin, enjoying a challenge, will devise a way to give you exactly what you were hoping for.
Many thanks to everyone at Campal! Now all we need is a bit of sunshine - can you do anything about that, Martin?

I Had been looking at various possibilities and companies who specialise in camper conversions for best part of a year in anticipation of buying my first mpv prior to my pending retirement. Unfortunately I soon discovered that there were no patterns or kits available for the vehicle I brought (Ford e-Tourneo courier 2024). I contacted a few companies before Campal about building/modifying a unit specifically for my model but I no response. On contacting Campal there was immediate positivity and willingness to help me out, Martin even sought out a ford showroom with my vehicle in stock to take the measurements required for an exact fit for the type of conversion i’d chosen. Nothing was too much trouble or fuss for martin or Lisa and needless to say that I’m very pleased with my purchase and I wouldn’t hesitate to use their services again.
I’m a very experienced van lifer - I was full time in my last self built van for 4 years, and this year bought a small little Nissan van which I kitted out as a micro camper for long trips away. I had been putting off buying any window covers, thinking I’d make my own - but time was ticking until my trip and with darkness falling at 4pm, losing that space in the cab at nighttime in such a tiny space would be a real pain. I did a lot of research into covers - I knew they had to be really easy to get on and off otherwise they’d annoy me! I had previous made magnetic covers for my last van, and that Campal’s also used magnets was a major draw for how they’re up and down in seconds. The front cover uses suckers that feel very advanced (!) and are easy to unmount. The front cover has a velcro seem in the middle which splits it in two, making it a lot more manageable to put up, and fits my phone holder snugly in between while securing nice and tight and letting no light out. The covers are so well made, really thick and cosy. They have made an incredible difference to living in such a small space, I can now use my swivel seat table in the cab after dark, and they keep the van really snug. I will use them year round - winter for light and warmth, and summer to keep the van cool for me and my dog. Beyond the quality and really thought through design of the window covers, I also had really amazing service from Lisa and Martin from when I first enquired. They answered all my questions, and helped make sure I would get them in time before my trip. Thank you so much Lisa and Martin!
Start to finish an excellent visionary company that sees what's needed and delivers. It's just an incredible product with second to none communication, bespoke design and such an incredible range of vehicles that can be so swiftly transformed with Campal's incredible camping kit!
We ordered the full set of thermal blinds for our beloved ID Buzz. We are chuffed to bits. The quality of the blinds is superb and fit is excellent. We tried them out on a hot day and could really feel the benefit of the reflective material. AND the communication was absolutely excellent from the first enquiry. Thank you Lisa and Martin.
Cannot praise Campal, Lisa, Martin and the rest of the team enough! We had an elevate model produced and fitted to our Toyota Proace as we needed to keep the middle row of seats in. Just had its first festival put and it was perfect - well engineered, brilliantly thought out and incredibly sturdy. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was genuinely great to cook in! Plus it looks fabulous. The entire process from start to finish was wonderful- prompt communication, regular check ins to make sure it would fit our needs and we were taken through every element of use and function when we came to have it fitted. They are all extremely passionate about their product, and offering 5 star service. Get one now!
We received our Campal Elevate yesterday but only had time to unpack and install it tonight. We love it already! The materials and build quality are incredible, the design so simple and thoughtful, and it’s so intuitive and easy to use! The blinds are also absolutely genius and beautifully made. The bed is huge! We can see that we’ll get a lot of use out of our Campal and be really comfortable. Lisa is incredibly responsive and helpful and the whole experience from ordering to installation has been a breeze!
