Disappointing Experience at the Spa

A friend and I visited the spa today but left after just thirty minutes due to the inadequate facilities. Upon arrival, there were no robes available. The lockers were malfunctioning, and the receptionist was aware but failed to provide a solution. The 'hot showers' were actually cold. The jacuzzi was out of service, and only one hot tub was accessible, while the other three were either half full, not heated, or dirty. There was ice on the floors outside, creating a significant slip hazard. Additionally, there was a leaking roof, which was quite unpleasant. The facility was overbooked for the number of amenities, preventing us from using the one hot tub that was available. The pool temperature was also uncomfortable. It's truly disappointing, as we've visited many times before and have never encountered such a rundown experience.

Disappointing experience

Awful stay with poor conditions

My stay was disappointing; the cabin was shabby, with a cramped bathroom and inadequate space to use the toilet due to the sink being too close. The food was both terrible and overpriced, and while trying to enjoy a quiet meal, a loud group in dressing gowns was seated next to us, discussing personal topics and being disruptive. It was quite ridiculous to allow such behavior in the restaurant at that hour. I found the prices outrageous, like £30 for steak and chips and £9 for a glass of wine, which made it hard to enjoy my birthday meal. When I ordered, I was asked for my room number, but when I raised a complaint about the food, I was told to pay immediately, which felt rude. I reported this to the reception, but they seemed indifferent, simply stating they would pass it on. Clearly, this feedback has not led to any improvements, as evidenced by the numerous negative reviews. The management should be ashamed, as their lack of common sense is costing them business.

Unclean dining experience

At the restaurant, we found tables left with dirty dishes. We had to clear them ourselves to be seated. After waiting over an hour for our plates to be cleared and to order desserts, I had to seek out a staff member. When desserts finally arrived, drinks were still missing. After another half hour, we decided to leave just as a staff member arrived with the drinks, explaining they had been in a zoom meeting and were short-staffed. I raised a complaint and followed up a week later, but heard nothing back. This place used to be good, but it has declined significantly, and we will no longer be visiting regularly. If they can't manage cleanliness, I shudder to think about the kitchen.

Frustrating dining experience

I booked a table at the hotel restaurant four weeks in advance, and upon arrival, the experience was chaotic. We ordered our meals and waited nearly two hours for them to arrive. When they did, my starter and my wife’s dessert came out simultaneously, despite us not having our main courses yet. The assistant manager apologized and took the dessert away, but we then waited another hour for our main meals. Other diners were also complaining about delays, and some left frustrated. When our food finally arrived, it was undercooked, with raw chicken that was pink inside. The assistant manager offered to prepare a new meal, but we declined due to the wait time. The head cook apologized for the mix-ups, citing a malfunctioning system. Our entire experience took over two hours, and I cannot recommend this restaurant due to poor staffing and organization.

I visited for Sunday lunch and was very pleased with the food! The young lady in charge of our table was exceptional—so pleasant and helpful, which significantly enhanced our experience. Would return - Yes

I had two business trips in November, and I noticed improvements being made. While the place is a bit worn, it still has its charm. There are various room sizes available, from compact hotel rooms to spacious cabins. The bar features a lovely open fire, and breakfast was excellent. The staff was cheerful and seemed genuinely happy, which earns it a solid 4 for me. I would certainly return, especially in the summer, as the setting is beautiful.

Unkempt spa experience

I booked a treatment at the hotel spa, but the changing room was in a deplorable state—filthy, with a moldy shower curtain and peeling paint. The bins were overflowing. I would have left if I hadn't already paid. I will not be returning; it was disgusting.

Mixed feelings about the stay

Despite my ratings, I enjoyed my stay primarily due to the company I was with. However, I must mention that the place felt rundown and in urgent need of maintenance. The lodge we stayed in was not clean, with grime and unidentifiable stains present. The bed was uncomfortable, and the rodent deterrent was overly bright at night. While the staff were commendable, the overall experience was hampered by the lack of upkeep and consideration for guest comfort, especially during events like weddings that conflicted with the spa experience.
