I lived in Maryland all my life on the eastern shore where we had crabs pretty much every week. The crabs you sent me were OK but not great. Several of them were bad. Also, it took over an hour for them to thaw out so that we could eat them. They were pretty much frozen Never ordered any by mail before so maybe that’s the norm.
First the crabs arrived packed beautifully. The crabs were seasoned to perfection then when we started eating they were the best! Very meaty and just so so good! We’ve ordered from other places and these were by far the best. I’d recommend to everyone!
My crabs - a bushel of live Jimmy's next-day air shipped to Colorado - were a major disappointment. I used to live in Maryland, and I did a lot of homework before ordering these, so I thought I knew what to expect.The crabs arrived on time in a sealed XPS container; I had expected the container to be perforated to allow for air to reach the crabs. There was one freezer gel pack on top of the container and 3-4 at the bottom: all were completely thawed and the entire container was uniformly room-temperature. I did not carefully inspect each crab, but there were definitely several that were alive and active, though not many. I transferred them into two other coolers: ice on the bottom, covered with damp towels, then crabs, and finally another damp towel on top. I could hear bubbling, and I saw lots of dismembered claws, but many crabs were hanging limply as I moved them. The containers were placed out of direct sunlight and the lids were left partially open to permit air to enter.Sixteen hours later, I was ready to steam them, and I laid them out on the ground. I was able to salvage just ten (10) crabs; every other one was dead.I'll take partial responsibility; this was my first time receiving live crabs shipped so far, and my coolers may not have been set up perfectly, but this was a big - and expensive - disappointment. In the end, I knew that these guys are fragile and decided to take a chance, but it didn't work out. We wish Crab Dynasty the best, but we will not be buying live seafood from them again.
