They were cheap but they are the dirtiest company for car insurance I've ever had in my life. I was going through domestic violence trying to get my ex-husband that I was only married to 6 months off of my policy. I was the policyholder for 6 years and they wouldn't remove him. He was out here doing drugs and abusing me and stalking me and I was calling insurance and they wouldn't remove him. He wrecked the car and damaged State property and they dropped me. My sister was with them 8 years carried full coverage and her husband bumped into someone at a stop sign and the people went to the hospital and said they got hurt and Erie dropped them to their trash

This has been the worst insurance experience my company has ever had. Erie Insurance applies hidden fees buried in the fine print, and their cancellation policy is extremely abusive. Due to circumstances beyond our control, my company had to request the cancellation of our policy, and Erie charged us a penalty of more than 60% of the total value of the policy. This is completely unreasonable and shows a lack of transparency and customer care. I strongly advise anyone considering Erie Insurance to stay away. There are far better and more honest companies in Pennsylvania.
I have extensive hail damage on my house that apparently happened more than 12 months ago. I was told by several Eire employees that Eire pays claims that are past the 12 month (it was 19 months before I discovered the damage.) Apparently I wasn't one of the lucky ones they decided needed help. I am now paying to have a new roof put on out of my own pocket. Horrible insurance. Terrible at paying claims. I would give them a zero if I could. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy!
Beware that 'full coverage' is not full coverage with Erie. My car was in good condition when hitting a deer last December. The cars Erie used as 'comparables' were in worse than poor condition. For example, one had visible body damage in the ~$2,000 range involving multiple body panels. Another had all 4 leather seats containing large rips. Erie refused to even acknowledge this. And even though the report from Erie's own assessor found no substantial damage to my car from before the accident they refuse to acknowledge that my car is in good condition. It has now been 8 months and it seems there is little hope I will get anything remotely close to what my car was worth. I would give '0' stars if this review site would let me.
Due to a mistake made in forwarding mail to a new address and invoices not reaching us, one of our homeowner's policies with Erie lapsed. When we discovered the problem, Erie refused to reinstate or rewrite the policy, which was one of five policies we had with them at the time, some going back 45 years! The local agent's recommendation was for Erie to use a third-party broker and quoted a price of $4,800 per year vs. the previous price of less than $700. The issue was elevated to a representative of the Erie Office of the President, who only would state their policies and boilerplate. When asked if they were willing to throw away a good customer of 45 years the answer was simply and sadly, yes! Very short-sighted. In order to obtain the best quotes from Erie competitors, we had to bundle all our insurance needs for competitive bidding. The competitive quote for the one policy that lapsed, was $1500 vs. the Erie solution of $4,800. As a retired business executive myself, it is hard to believe that a company would walk away from a customer of 45 years. Perhaps I should have shopped our business years ago!
This is directed to Steffey Insurance at Keystone Crossing, Indianapolis. If there was a zero rating this agency would get that from us. We filed a claim for wind damage to our roof over a year ago. Zero help in any way from this company. Our shingles are discontinued so need to replace all. Not our fault. Biggest insurance blow off ever!!! Worthless!! And we have been customers in good standing for over 8 years. Huge premiums! No help!!!
This company is not a trustworthy company, they reinstated my insurance without my knowledge they use my premium check somehow without my signature to reinstate my insurance then tried to charge me almost $3,000 for non-compliance I've been battling with them for almost a year now to get my money back they still won't return it I have gotten insurance on a vehicle somewhere else and have notified them three times that I did even the insurance company notified them they kept drawing money from my account they had lawyers sending me mail saying I was being sued for the money. Now they are admitting they are wrong but still won't return my money I do not recommend this company for any of your insurance be aware they owe me about around $2,000 they calls me to lose jobs and I caused a bunch of mental and emotional stress for me my business & my family. And I'm still going back and forth with them trying to get my money back they took. Trying to find a lawyer now tired of dealing with crooked people they tried to act like everything was my fault when I have sent them everything they need to see they were at fault when they already knew they were at fault. I have all the proof from the time I reinstated new insurance for my vehicles and the time I was injured for 8 months and didn't need workman's comp that was reinstated without my knowledge they ruined my Christmas and calls me to lose a lot of business
I have used Erie for 50 years and have never had a bad or unsympathetic experience with either my local agent or an Erie employee. They have always been helpful and caring. I read some of the 1 star reviews and I really don't know who these complainers are or why they had a bad experience. Prehaps they are not being completely honest about their experience details. Some people today don't want to accept responsibility and are always looking for others to blame instead of looking in the mirror.
My girlfriend has her homeowners policy with Erie Insurance. She has Alzheimers disease. I called Erie Insurance attempting to get her premium payments converted to monthly from the huge annual payment they charge. The customer service rep was advised about the cognitive issues but insisted on putting my girlfriend through questioning to validate some information before the rep would talk to me. Obviously that didn't go well so I asked to speak to a supervisor. My request was refused and the rep also refused to help further. The rep ended the call by saying (sarcastically) that she hoped the rest of my day went better. This is not a caring customer service company. Stay away!!
