Extremely frustrating experience with the at-home GRE

My experience taking the GRE at home was incredibly frustrating. From the very beginning, the process was chaotic: setting up the administration took 20 minutes, with the camera having to be adjusted repeatedly, and then my exam unexpectedly dropped due to technical problems. The proctor interrupted me twice, stating she could only see my hands typing, and at one point, my proctor was changed without any notice, which forced me to restart. By the end, I had to reach out to the proctor four times before she finally responded, and when I informed her I was done, she simply replied, 'Oh, okay.' This whole experience was not only tiring and poorly organized but also a significant distraction from my primary goal: taking the GRE. I struggled to concentrate on the exam itself because all my attention was diverted to meeting the constantly shifting demands of the proctor. The company really needs to improve the administration of these at-home tests—this situation was simply unacceptable. I strongly advise taking the test in person until the issues with at-home proctoring are resolved.

Completely unacceptable experience with the home exam

My experience taking the GRE at home was utterly unacceptable. The entire process was chaotic from the outset: it took 20 minutes just to set up, with constant camera adjustments, and then my exam was interrupted due to technical difficulties. The proctor halted me twice, claiming she could only see my hands typing. At one point, I was switched to a different proctor without any warning, forcing me to restart. By the end, I had to contact the proctor four times before she responded, and when I told her I was finished, her reply was simply, 'Oh, okay.' This situation was not only exhausting and poorly organized but also a major distraction from my goal of taking the GRE. I couldn't focus on the exam itself because I was too busy trying to meet the ever-changing demands of the proctor. The company must seriously improve how these at-home tests are managed—this was completely unacceptable. I strongly recommend taking the test in person until the at-home proctoring issues are addressed.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid this service completely. They canceled my scores without any evidence. It feels like these companies are exploiting individuals who have no options. I took the TOEFL iBT Home Edition. Although English isn't my first language, I am fluent and use it daily in Canada. I scored low in reading for reasons I can't explain, but I felt confident in other sections. Then I received an email stating my scores couldn't be reported because my writing didn't meet the task requirements or contained ideas from other sources. They're accusing me of plagiarism, which is not true. I wrote everything from scratch without any templates or courses. If they had checked my screen, they would see I typed normally. I requested evidence and received nothing. They simply canceled my scores and kept my money. I spent over $258 for this test, completed it legitimately, and now my scores are gone without explanation. I’m lucky to afford another test elsewhere, but I am furious. Stay far away from this service; their customer service is incompetent.

The at-home test is a total scam

The at-home test is a total scam. They outsource everything, including proctoring, which led to a frustrating GRE experience. The setup took almost an hour with a proctor who was difficult to understand. I was so frustrated that I couldn't even start the test and requested a voucher for a local testing center instead, which was denied outright. I threatened to dispute the charge with my bank, and they warned me I could be blacklisted. Essentially, they can prevent you from taking the GRE again and refuse to release your scores to universities. They claim to be an American company, but good luck finding someone local to talk to. I dealt with several representatives who were difficult to communicate with. This is a terrible business that thrives on their monopoly over the testing process.

Consistent issues with the exam process

I've encountered problems every time I've taken a home exam. Most recently, I logged in on time only to be told my exam had already been completed or terminated. I contacted customer support, provided a screenshot of my login screen, but the representative couldn't assist me. I later received an email stating I failed to take my test. After calling again, I still couldn't resolve the issue, and my case is now being escalated for potential refunds and rescheduling. This has been extremely frustrating.

Unacceptable cancellation of scores

I had a horrible experience. They canceled my score without providing a clear reason. They claimed my writing task didn’t follow instructions or contained ideas from other sources, which I firmly believe is untrue. I adhered closely to the guidelines and my work was entirely original. After reaching out multiple times, they refused to clarify the issue and stated there was no chance for reevaluation or a refund. This is completely unacceptable—avoid at all costs.

Do not take the GRE online!

For the love of all that is good, do not take the GRE online! They make the experience as difficult as possible for a test that shouldn't even be necessary. The proctor had me on an exhausting search for an hour inspecting my study space. I felt so much unnecessary stress going into the exam! They monitor you so closely during the entire test. The service was terrible! I’d rather take the test in prison than deal with this again. I hope they face serious consequences for this.

Absolutely terrible service

If I could, I would give zero stars. The online test was a massive scam. They terminated my test for no reason and took $370 from me without any refund or rescheduling options. The customer service is incompetent, and the representatives barely speak English. I will never use this service again! I strongly suggest considering alternatives.

A complete nightmare

I despise this website. I scored 118/120 on the test, so this isn't about my performance. I can't log in, reset my password, or even find out where to access my results. Their customer service is a nightmare due to a terrible bot. When I try to fill out a form to contact them, the bot keeps saying it couldn't send my request. I just want to know who is responsible for this awful website. They should be ashamed.

Poor training services

Do not use this service for training to obtain certification cards. They do not provide adequate training, leaving you unprepared for the exam. They compress the learning material into a one-week course, which is insufficient time to prepare. They mislead you into thinking certain topics won't appear on the exam, but they do, setting you up for failure.
