I have just attempted to deliver a car to the office named in the contract for a one way journey. I arrifed in food time, only to discover that the office was closed on Sunday. I was given no warning that this might happen when I hired the car, and when I phoned the national number there wasn’t even an answer. Instead, an automatic voice told me to go to the website where there would be information on how to deliver a car outside office hours. However, on the website that was a whole jungle of information, and I couldn’t find the specific information on how to deliver, so I ended up having to throw the keys into the key box and just hope everything would be okay. I’ve hired cars in many countries in Europe and the USA, and I’ve never experienced such amateurish business procedures.

The worst car rental company in Denmark, I got a vehicle on Tuesday and it was in such a bad condition(wheel bearing worn out and rough driving experience!) got it swapped out for another vehicle Thursday night (10:00PM)…and for all my inconveniences they were happy to tell me that they had a “much better car” for me, well, if that means it is in working mechanical order, then yes 👏, but I definitely got a lot worse car, when it comes to amenities/equipt car! Shame on you EuropCar for bad customer care, at my expense…I had to take time out of my busy schedule to return and then get scammed, EuropCar should do better, my next rental will not be with this company again!…worst thing, I have this vehicle for another 25days…sigh!!!
Absolute disaster with Europcar at Aarhus Tirstrup Airport – the worst car rental experience of my life.As a first-time visitor to Denmark and this hotel/airport, I rented a car on February 28, 2026, and returned it out-of-hours via key drop on March 2 around 20:00 (office closed, as allowed). No joint inspection possible – their own policy.A day later, they hit me with a massive damage claim: multiple scratches on doors, fenders, wheel, back screen under fuel gap, and a cracked windshield. They demanded over £1000 in excess + fees. The "evidence" was a joke:Photos inconsistent: weather bright sunshine (impossible at 20:00 return), fuel cap missing sticker that was there during my rental.Only 3 timestamped pics in later emails vs. 10+ earlier ones that looked like screenshots without metadata. One photo clearly edited/manipulated: unnatural light under the car with a visible shadow of a person – looks faked.Tires dirty in both pre- and post-"wash for clarity" photos – raises huge questions if minor scratches happened during their handling/washing/moving the car.Signed contract attachment corrupt/missing in emails.I disputed repeatedly, demanded original raw timestamped photos/metadata, explanation of editing/washing, and logs showing no post-return damage risk. Local branch stonewalled and insisted "new damage" with zero proof beyond delayed inspection the next morning. It felt predatory: scare international renters with inflated claims post-return, hope they pay without fighting. Only after threatening escalation to central relations, Forbrugerrådet Tænk, ECRCS mediation, and solicitors did central damage department suddenly "close the case without charging" due to "benefit of the doubt" on March 10, 2026. No apology, no explanation for the dodgy photos/process – just "thanks for understanding."This isn't isolated – it seems like a pattern of targeting non-Danish/international customers with aggressive, unfair claims, especially when language/cultural barriers make it harder to push back immediately. As someone from outside Denmark on my first trip, the treatment felt biased and discriminatory – locals probably don't face the same level of scrutiny or pressure.Europcar Aarhus Airport: dishonest, unprofessional, manipulative tactics. They only backed down after I fought hard and threatened legal/consumer action. Zero trust, zero recommendation.Rent from ANYONE else – Hertz, Avis, Sixt, whatever. This company is a scam machine disguised as a rental service.Avoid. 0/10. Report them if you get hit with similar nonsense.
At the airport desk in Copenhagen on 10 February 2026 at 10pm we were offered to upgrade to a car with GPS and winter tires for DKK 500. However, we were not told that winter tires are mandatory. The guy that gave us the keys to the car we had booked just made a weird remark: 'Drive the car as little as possible'. Europcar website did NOT state that winter tires are mandatory in Denmark when snow, ice or frost - and Europcar website did NOT take us to 'choose accessories'. Had we known the Danish rule, we would of course had upgraded when booking the car.
After my last review regarding this company double charging me and still denying they did even with me providing proof. They have come back still claiming I have been charged correctly but on top of that they have charged me for extra fuel. In which I provided them proof of me filling the car up at the entrance of billund airport, despite this they say that the 280 dkk is still correct. Bear in mind that the fuel station is roughly 1km from the rental office. After me providing them with all the proof they have just told me that they cannot help me any further. So just to confirm I paid DKK 1075 on the day of collecting my rental car for winter tires and after hours collection. This proof was sent. They then charged me DKK 1075 and DKK280, 1 month later. Again, all of these payments backed up and europcar blatantly ignore this and stick to their guns so just be aware using the billund office but the whole company
Rented a Europcar for a few days in Denmark, picked it up in Copenhagen Airport. After returning to my home country,, 14 days later they emailed that I apparently had received parking ticket of DKK 560. While that sucked I could do nothing bud accept - as Europcar had already paid using the same credit card I used for the rental PLUS a DKK 350 “administration fee”!! Pure highway robbery. I spend thousands of dollars for rental cars in both North America and Europe every year. Europcar will definitely not get my business again.
Rented a car at Copenhagen airport to drive 300 km, admit I didn't read the fine print and asked for full insurance so I wouldn't have to pay anything in case of an accident.Didn't get the car I ordered a few weeks before. so I had to choose another one. When I returned the car they found a 2 cm tear in one of the tires. Since I had full insurance I didn't have to pay the damage but had to pay 450 dkk in admin fee. I was told I didn't have to pay anything... but Europcar made me. Not fair.Europcar gets 2.6 stars ⭐️ on Trustpilot but on Europcar own site is almost 5 stars…… wonder why 🙄.I was told by the staff at the airport(Europcar) if something happened I would not have to pay anything. Never Europcar again.
If I could give negative stars I would. We checked in our car with the attendant at the outdoor lot at the airport in Billund who confirmed there was no new damage to the car (we were extremely careful with the vehicle and didn’t experience any damage during our rental period). Then a few days later, we received an email noting a stone had chipped the windshield and copy of photos and inspection report dated three days after our rental period ended. Any damage clearly happened in the outdoor, gravel lot, after we returned the car. They are currently trying to gouge us for a damage management fee and will no doubt try to get us to pay to replace the windshield while fixing nothing for the next customer. This is a disreputable company. Will stick with a company like Hertz next time, that doesn’t try these antics. Don’t rent from Europcar in Denmark! If you dare to rent from them, be sure to insist on a signed check out inspection form. They make you think dropping off your keys and inspecting the car with the attendant is enough, but that’s how they get you. What a nightmare.
Never again will we rent a car from Europcar (Denmark). When we picked up the rental car, they tried to sell us additional insurance. We declined, were given the rental car keys and told that the car was damage-free and that we should sign for it. We didn't even have a chance to inspect the rental car beforehand. When returning the car, we were told to simply park it in a car park. Although we asked, no one inspected it. When we parked the rental car in the car park, it was DAMAGE-FREE. 24 hours later, we received an EMAIL stating that a minimal paint scratch had been found on the rental car and that damage handling fees would therefore be charged and approximately 75% of our deposit would be retained due to the damage.Of course, this is one way to increase your profit margin. The scratch was not even recognisable as a scratch in the photo sent to us. In our opinion, this is a classic case of fraud.Never again will we rent a car from this company.
