On arrival in Denmark with an elderly wheelchair dependent old lady and young family Europcar refused to inspect the hired car as they were too busy , although we were the only one in the queue. We had to sign for a car that was not inspected . There was a lot of damage by the previous owner and it was remarkable that they could fix the paintwork within 24 hrs upon our hire. The fuel was not full and when we returned the vehicle they charged us for more fuel. We also note in their terms and conditions the hirers are responsible for the vehicle even when it is off hired until the vehicle was inspected. We were charged for excess fuel, washing vehicle, administrative charge plus tax. One side of the vehicle was damaged when we off hired the vehicle. We were left with a 8000 Danish kroner bill as well as the 2 week hire costs. We ordered a SUV and what was offered was a Toyota Yaris for four suitcases and a wheelchair. Ridiculous. Dishonest company. It was a lesson learned to insist on inspecting the vehicle pre and post hire and take photographs including the fuel gauge preferably and do not travel on a Sunday when the office is closed.
This review applies to Europcar Odense. Got a car for 3 days via Skoda Vejhjælp. Gasoline car - deposit level shows full. Employee takes pictures of the car at collection. At delivery, I filled the deposit- it shows as full as well. Asked the same lady employee if they would check the car, if I had to sign anything- it wasn’t necessary, according to her. She asked if the tank was full, I confirmed. Short after I left, I get an invoice for 100 kr for filling up the tank. I claimed, she mentions they always fill up the tank after customers return cars. I question this statement, how could customers be sure that the tank was originally filled to the brim, at collection? She does not care. She only accepts returning the difference in price between the 25 kr Europcar takes per liter. According to her the day’s price was 14,89 kr. That was a lie. The price was 13,59 kr. The amount is ridiculous. I claimed as a matter of principles. I
I was able to book the car and then informed I would not be able to collect the car without a credit card. I was then charged 60 Euro to cancel. Unhelpful staff on the phone were unable to help or provide any explanation. Also was rather rude and snarky on the phone. Terrible experience.
I cannot recommend Eurocar Denmark. Both times I rented from them, I experienced rude customer service and unfair charges. The first time, the car was damaged from a recent accident. But furthermore when I asked if I could return it at 8 AM instead of 7 AM, as I arrived in Denmark late in the night, they assured me it was fine without any extra charges, but still charged me for an extra day, despite not even being open at 7 AM.The second time, they charged me 350 DKK per invoice for a 65 DKK Norwegian road tax, totaling 3 invoices, 1,050 DKK instead of 195 DKK. When I questioned this, their response was dismissive, simply stating, “these are the rules.”While Eurocar may seem cheaper upfront, hidden fees and poor customer service make it far more expensive in the end. I strongly recommend choosing another rental company in Denmark.
Europcar denmark has send me a bill for road toll from my trip to Norway 3 months ago. About 100 Australia dollars. 2/3 of that amount is an administrative fee from europcar. Though I already had payed a fee extra for driving in Norway. They did not inform me about that before I rented the car. When I talked to Europcar today they hang up on me when I asked to talk to the supervisor.
I would strongly advise against renting from Europcar, especially if you are booking through third-party platforms. My experience with Europcar Denmark at Kastrup Airport was nothing short of a nightmare, and it seems I am not alone—many others have reported similar issues after I decided to write a review. Here’s what happened to me: I booked a car through Expedia well in advance, paying upfront for a reservation that included unlimited kilometers and a fixed price. However, when I arrived at the Europcar location to pick up the vehicle, they refused to honor my reservation. Their excuse? I am a resident of Denmark, and they claimed that Danish residents are subject to a completely different set of terms, including higher prices and limited kilometers. Here’s the problem: none of this was disclosed during the booking process. Both Expedia and Europcar failed to communicate these supposed restrictions upfront. Europcar staff pointed to “Danish law” requiring tax compliance, but they neither provided any proof of this law nor explained why such restrictions were not transparently displayed on their partner websites. To make matters worse, Europcar attempted to charge me almost three times the price of my original booking for a car with limited kilometers. This is not just a one-off issue; countless reviews on multiple platforms reveal that Europcar routinely pulls the same scam with customers booking through Expedia, and other platforms. They accept bookings, cancel them at the last minute, and blame residency restrictions or tax laws—without any clear evidence or fixes to partner websites to warn customers beforehand. Even though we send them well im advance our address and phone number. This behavior is deceptive and completely unacceptable. Europcar has demonstrated a pattern of negligence and dishonesty by: 1. Failing to disclose critical restrictions on third-party platforms. 2. Blaming customers for the lack of transparency. 3. Offering no viable solutions and leaving customers stranded at the counter. My travel plans were completely ruined. Europcar has done nothing to rectify the situation, nor have they taken responsibility for ensuring their partners’ platforms are accurate and informative. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, avoid Europcar. Their refusal to fix this ongoing issue with third-party bookings and their disregard for customer experience speaks volumes about their priorities.
I had a few bookings with europcar, the majority went smoothly but one was a disaster. I had a booking through booking.com for 14 days for appr. 2,200kr . That was a really good offer. So when we arrived in Billlund and picked up the car, they charged me 4,900 kr. I didn't ask anything because I thought that is the deposit. Later I had to extend it with four days and it was around 3,700 kr. I accepted it, because I got a bigger car in Billund for the same price and for the additional 4 day I had to pay more, actually the original price (It's still strange the fact that 4 four day is much more than 14), anyway after that I asked them what was then the 4,900, is it the deposit? First they didn't know, and they said the deposit is 2500 kr and after a few email somebody said it was an authorisation. There was that premium insurance, I paid the price from the booking and again the premium insurance, what I think should be integrated in the main price, because There was just the deposit and the one way fee for additional costs on webpage. In the and they charged me the whole amount again and released the others. Most of the other, there was one with I had to wait, because the europcar said they finished the contract and the bank said they don't know, if the company doesn't want that fee until 1st of october I'll get the money back. It was chaotic, they charged many times and released and charged in the and again, like in game and it was hard to follow. I asked also the booking.com, they answered me with something different, with the daily km , I drove more or something like that, but If I made a calculation I was below the line. So I started with around 2,200 kr and ended with 6,222 kr summary and they kept the booking price also, so around 8,422 kr. I can accept that the initial price was low,and there is some additional price, but I can't accept that the final price will be 4 times bigger in the end.
Billing extra for a tiny superficial 3cm scratch. I left the car at the airport, nobody there to check the car with me. There were no scratches when I checked the car myself. I’ve never had any car rental bill me anything for the 15 years of renting cars regularly!! So I didn’t take any photos. Two days later they ask me to fill in a damage report and send me photos of a tiny scratch they found on the bonnet. Expecting me to declare this damage that I never had and applying excessif fees to earn more money!! No thanks, NO MORE EUROPCAR for me my friends and family!!!In your last email you claim an excess of 5000DKK and 375 DKK for repairing a superficial 3 cm scratch, that's way to much. So far you've only written emails and sent a photo. I'm still waiting for the following documents (yes I had to list them to you):1. A formal joint report, the form should be signed by you and include space for my signature as well2. The estimate or the invoice of costs for repairing the 3 cm scratch on the bonnet 3. The expert reportAs asked from my insurance. It's incredible unprofessional to just send emails and a photo and claim an excess of more than 5000DKK. Rental agreement 660928 car hired at Kastrup Airport.
I had a terrible experience with Check 24 and Europcar when booking a rental car. I reserved a car with Europcar through Check 24 in Copenhagen for EUR 232.21 and paid a deposit of EUR 63.11. Despite clearly providing my Danish address when making the booking, I was informed upon arrival that Check 24 bookings are not valid for residents of Denmark at Europcar, something that was not mentioned during the booking process. As a result, I was forced to make a new reservation on the spot, which came with worse conditions – a smaller car, no unlimited mileage, and an inflated price of EUR 375.83. On top of that, the deposit I had already paid was not taken into account. The entire situation was frustrating, and their lack of transparency and poor customer service in addressing this issue leaves much to be desired. Despite multiple follow-ups, I’ve had no resolution for the additional costs I was forced to bear.
