Disappointing family trip experience

We were excited to book our journey from one city to another, especially since it was a surprise for our young children. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite shocking, and not in a good way. Upon arrival, I noticed the train carriages were old, which I could overlook if they had a vintage charm, but they desperately needed a thorough cleaning. There was dirt that seemed to be from decades ago, and I regretted having to retrieve a toy that fell under the seat. While the sheets and blankets were clean, that was where the positives ended. The train staff appeared confused and disorganized. We invested 800 euros for this trip, and I can confidently say it will be our last. If you're encouraging people to invest in your company, please prioritize hiring a proper cleaning service. Sincerely disappointed, a family traveler.

We took the European Sleeper train from one city to another last night. The toilets were unpleasant. There was no wifi or water refill available...

Good option to consider!

We have used the European Sleeper several times due to the great routes and destinations. Most of the staff demonstrate excellent customer service skills, though a few do detract from the experience. The rolling stock is quite old and can be hit or miss, but the prices are fair. The food on board is enjoyable, and the beds are very comfortable.

Tried it once for the experience

I tried it once for the experience and wouldn’t do it again. It’s not significantly cheaper than budget flights, and the travel time is much longer.

Smooth and enjoyable journey

The trip went as smoothly as possible, leaving and arriving on time, and the cabin was comfortable (I was in a 5-bed berth). While the carriages are old, they still function well, and the bathrooms were clean. Customer service was responsive and helpful when I reached out with a query. Very pleased with this company.

Narrow bottom bunk – not suitable for average adults

I booked a sleeper ticket expecting a standard sleeper bed, as I have traveled on night trains many times before. On board, I found the lowest bunk assigned to me was much narrower than the others due to fixed seats. This meant I had about a third less space than in the other bunks, a detail not disclosed during booking. As an average-sized woman, I found that one of my arms hung over the edge, making it feel unsafe and impossible to sleep properly. For over €300 for a return ticket, I expected more than what felt like a cramped shelf. I arrived completely exhausted instead of refreshed. The bottom bunk is clearly inferior and should either be disclosed during booking or not sold as a standard sleeper berth, especially at this price.

Direct to Prague, overnight

Very good overnight connection, comfortable beds, and kind service. The only downside was that the air in the cabin was dry and warm, and we couldn't open the window.

More reliable than other services

I’m not sure how they manage it, but they are more reliable than other services.

Basic yet a great way to travel

I traveled in a budget shared sleeper compartment from one city to another and back. I love night trains and know that the rolling stock is quite dated. The tickets were reasonably priced, booking was easy, and the toilets were functional and clean. The compartment wasn’t pristine on the way out but was fine on the return trip. We ordered coffee in the morning on the return, which arrived quickly and was very welcome. The staff were friendly and helpful. The budget options are basic, so for more comfort, it might be worth considering the slightly pricier alternatives. I’m also intrigued that the company operates as a cooperative rather than a state-run service. I’ll definitely use their trains again, especially when the new line opens. Looking forward to my next journey!
