Leaving Membership.io after six years.
In the early days Searchie was exactly what we needed: a place to store our videos, generate transcripts, and searchability. It never has had any actual community features. Don't let the marketing fool you. Members can't communicate with each other or directly with hosts. There is no app, even after all these years. We never used Searchie for a membership community because there were no real community features. We've been in Mighty Networks since 2019. When MN announced they were adding API for Searchie, we switched from YouTube. However, MN no longer promotes Searchie. When MN upgraded their video management, I had to go all the way up to a MN VP to get them to add the API back. That was earlier this year. Originally, the AI features were helpful, but they haven't kept up with what other platforms now offer. The Searchie transcripts, for example, are still quite horrible, not pulling from the more sophisticated AI that Zoom uses. For the past several months, we've been using the Zoom transcript features (which are amazing). I still have to go into each and every video in Searchie/membership.io and completely rewrite the autogenerated recording summary. Over the years, we've had to contact Searchie for additional hours MANY TIMES because DELETING FILES DOESN'T FREE UP SPACE. Recently, Searchie has been making some changes, but not for the better. Whatever they've been doing has led to so many glitches: videos stuck in perpetual transcoding, super weird text in the AI summaries, etc. I've wasted more time trying to get support about these issues. It can take days to get a reply.

After all these years, and over $10,000 spent on Searchie, we're leaving at the end of April.

If you want a video library experience for members, it has some okay features. Nothing better than a private YouTube membership, to be honest.

It's confusing for members to subscribe and almost impossible for them to cancel. We abandoned paid memberships in Searchie years ago.

Side bar: membership.io is one of the worst names because let's be real having a membership in something called "membership" sounds ridiculous.

$8K for DFY transfer and my team STILL did 95% of the work

After paying membership.io $8000 to have our existing site transferred to their platform, I could not be more discouraged by their level of service and wiping their hands of the project.Our team has essentially done everything from: - painstakingly cataloging all of our videos (completely unecessarily too. Just look at our current member site. Why would we need to catalog it all again??).- My team uploading all our videos to io database. I would've hopeed io would take care of the little remaining of simply copying and pasting the urls, copy, images from original member site to their own, but no. We've had to do that, too. Really have no idea what we paid for beside setting up the basic guts of the modules and lessons structure, completely empty, for us to complete.Then they say they supplied SOPs and Resources? Yeah, that should be included with a basic subscription of knowing how to use a piece of software.Bottom line, do NOT invest $8K for their "Done-For-You" transfer. It is the FURTHEST thing from what you will expect to have as an end product. Oh and they'll also tell you after you sign up about all the up-charges for extra video hours storage they don't inform you about beforehand.

So happy I switched

Switching from another platform to Membership.io was easier than I ever anticipated. The Customer Service is amazing - shout out to Remshar and Karleigh!! My questions are answered and most concerns are taken care of in a day. The platform itself is easy to use - and I am not tech savvy. I have multiple memberships and classes on it now and am so happy I switched.

I've been using membership.io primarily for its community feature and it has completely transformed how I engage with my audience and the notification system is absolutely amazing and even before I had my custom email setup configured I was able to send email blasts to all my community members effortlessly and when I reached out to their support team for help with customizing my email setup they were incredibly helpful and walked me through the entire process and now my email blasts come directly from my address and members can respond directly to me exactly what i needed. The Spaces feature is another standout and it allows me to organize my community content and design each space with custom layouts tailored to different topics or member groups and I can embed videos from multiple sources whether they're recordings from my membership.io account or content from my youtube or instagram or even zoom videos and the platform also lets me link to custom URLs without any restrictions giving me complete flexibility in how I share resources. What sets membership.io apart from other community platforms I've used is how intuitive and unrestricted it feels and unlike Facebook groups with their limitations and confusion I can customize everything exactly how I want it and getting content from my library into my community is fast and efficient and I can keep my members engaged with quality content without overwhelming them and my members get exactly what they need when they need it and this is by far the best community software I've ever used and I couldn't be happier with the decision to switch to membership.io.

Your customer service is quicker than most, and the integration with AI is light years ahead of the competition.
