After saying I would never use Halfords for anything due to repeat shoddy work, I literally drove past a National Tyres local to me and asked for an MOT. They said I could leave it overnight and it would be ready the next day. They said they already had my contact details which I thought was strange because I don’t recall ever using National Tyres but just assumed I must have.
The next afternoon (I worked nights) I woke to my wife telling me that Halfords had called and told her that my car needed new discs and pads to pass its MOT and she said yes because she knew I needed to car back. The bill was £700 and when I looked at the MOT, it didn’t fail on brakes at all! It failed on a low headlight beam which they adjusted. They literally took my details from when I used Halfords and Halfords in the past were aware I worked nights and gave my wife’s contact details in case they couldn’t reach me.
You cannot make me believe they didn’t for a second think they could scam me out of £700 by telling my wife’s it’s what it needed. If you look at my other 1 star review for Halfords themselves you’ll see they ripped off my daughter too.
Horrible, horrible company. If you’re a woman; stay away. If you’re a man, take your car elsewhere.
Rang Newquay in Cornwall office today (Wednesday) so I could cancel my appointment on Saturday.
Called 3 times in morning, no one answered.
Later in afternoon called 3 more times for someone to “hang up” on me.
How very unprofessional.
But then it’s Halfords in disguise so I’m not that surprised.
Tyres fitted by mobile fitter. Left sealant all over the alloys - when I questioned it he said it would "come off in a couple of days". It hasn't. He also broke the tyre pressure sensor in the wheel. Many emails and online form submissions have given zero response.
I experienced noise from the suspension and was advised that I required new front shocks and a rear spring, which was reportedly broken. I consulted two independent garages for reassurance, and both confirmed that there was nothing wrong! I definitely won't return. A recent garage inspection focusing on the suspension also found no issues. I can only imagine the expenses incurred for unnecessary repairs.
AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!!! I brought my car in for a simple oil change, and it was in good condition when it arrived. However, within 24 hours of picking it up, I received a warning about low oil pressure, and there was a significant oil leak. My engine completely seized, and after inspection, I was informed that a new engine would be necessary, with the fault traced back to the service provided. When I reached out with evidence, they denied any responsibility, and the office staff were extremely rude, treating me disrespectfully. I requested to speak with the area manager, but it took a month of persistent calls to finally get a response, which was dismissive and accusatory. Now, I'm facing nearly £7,000 in repair costs. They are dishonest, and the staff lack professionalism, refusing to accept any accountability. ***I’m leaving this review a year later and still have not made any progress.***
I scheduled an appointment for 17:30 and was asked to arrive at 17:00. However, I brought the car in on Wednesday morning at 8:30. When I returned on Friday at 15:30, the work was still not completed. It was just a battery replacement, and in their haste, they lost my battery terminal cover.
I encountered a significant problem with my exhaust on an older vehicle. It was sagging at the back, so the service team raised it on the ramp and explained the situation to me. Wear and tear had caused a major failure, with a large crack in the midsection. Instead of spending more on repairs, I requested that they remove the damaged part, which they kindly and carefully did since I needed to pick up my son from school and had no other way to get there. The best part? They charged me nothing for this service! This level of kindness and old-fashioned customer care is truly commendable. I can't express my gratitude enough for their genuine support. 5* 🙏🏻
The service used to be excellent, with honest and helpful staff. However, since the takeover, it has deteriorated. My wife was told she needed two new tyres to pass the MOT and was sold the most expensive options. Upon reviewing the MOT sheet for this year, it clearly indicated that the replaced tyres were still at 4mm and marked as "advised". She drives about 4k miles annually. They've ruined the positive reputation that was built, and I won't be coming back.
I scheduled a tyre replacement for November 2025 and mistakenly chose the wrong size. However, the manager contacted me to inform me about the issue and assisted in finding the correct size. When I arrived, I found that the same priced tyres were unavailable, but the manager offered a discount so I didn't incur any additional costs. Thank you! I highly recommend this service.
