I was almost overcharged in the sunderland store today.I had 2 items and had worked out roughly what the cost should be at the till of £2.I was asked for 50p more than it should be i.e. £2.50 and when I queried it, she said £2.15p. I said that I thought she'd said five oh 50 and she replied no fifteen.I paid and walked away. When I checked my change and the receipt I found she had actually charged me 50p too much.I'd stood in the queue for ages in the first place, but had to go back into the store and take a photo of the item on the shelf which showed the price as £1 and not the £1.50 she'd charged me.I had to queue again and when I showed her the picture on the shelf of the correct price, her response was 'Well the till says £1.50'!!!!!After advising I wouldn't be paying £1.50 for a £1 item she eventually rang a bell. A while later a guy with glasses turns up. I explained the situation to him and instead of sorting it out properly he just asked if I wanted a refund. So I left the shop without the item as I wasn't prepared to pay 50% more for it.Customer service in this store is shocking. Despite querying the price at the check out I was fobbed off and still overcharged. Had I not checked my receipt I wouldn't have known I'd been ripped off.One of my pet hates is poorly trained staff and those shops that overcharge you. If they overcharge every customer by 50p they'll be quids in.For me it's not the amount I'm overcharged but the principle of it.I would suggest anyone shopping here works out roughly what the cost should be, before you get to the till and always check your receipt and your change.
I've had the same negative experience as other reviewers ! The price shown in the shelf isn't necessarily the price you pay. I purchased Malibu sunlotoin priced up as a special offer at £2.50 but I was charged £3.49 at the till. When I queried it the manager said the bottles had been put on the wrong shelf !! There wss no apology but he did offer a refund. I won't be shopping there again.
Most of the shelves are empty and nothing is priced up and when you pick something up and take it to the till it a different price what it says on the shelves and different price at the till and security staff are either on there phones or talking and the lady who is meant to be the management don't know what she doing and the staff need to smart themselves up and not have there phones on them
I brought several bottles if fizzy drinks, crisps and chocolate to put in our electric coolbox in the car as we were going on a road trip around Scotland. My partner and I both oped a bottle the drink was flat and had a strange taste, we looked at the date NOVEMBER 2023 really 8 months out of date that is a health issue to customers. I have contacted their Head Office several times they have ignored my messages can't get through via phone so I have know emailed them and we will see if they reply and actually do something. I spent £43.68 I don't have a receipt why would you keep it for pop and snacks but the amount is on my bank statement. Please be vigilant when purchasing and always Check the Sell By Date.
I visited the Lancaster store. Was nice to see a discount store, selling goods at low prices, this is always great. The lady who served me spotted that one of our items was broken, and invited us to selected another, which was great. For the bad bit, the store clearly wasn’t well managed, and the staff had clearly not been well trained. Many people aged between 45 and 65 will know the Madness song ‘One Step Beyond’, which has an intro ‘Hey you, don’t watch that, watch this!’.The new store new of ‘One Beyond’ will clearly attract memories of this song.As part of training, all staff should be made aware of this. Also, the lady assumed we wanted a carrier bag, without asking, so scanned one for us.We told her we didn’t want the bag. First thing she tried to say was ‘it’s only 30p’. No matter how small, goods should be pushed at a customer when not asked for,.However, a supervisor had to called over to void the item.It does not look good when a checkout cashier is unable to void a small item they have scanned on their own!
The one star is because HR managed to sort a lot of the issues out yet still left jobless. Our rotas were manipulated, the staff all had a good gossip and laugh at anyone new. They take people on say how much they're going to pass probation to fail them because they only needed workers for a few weeks. Budget won't allow the staff needed so asked to work for free. Mouse traps used and not checked daily I myself smelt and found a rotting mouse. Unsafe work conditions I was told j would be given a uniform that never happened. I was asked to work through my break despite me nearly passing out because my blood sugar was low. This may only be this certain store but I haven't set foot in any since. HR sorted a lot of issues but current staff are saying some things haven't changed just someone got sacked. The actual job itself isn't too bad just like any other retail shop job.
Had lovely experience shopping all staff where helpful definitely young Lass with pink hair on tills was very quick and was helpful when I couldn't find a product she went out of her way even though it was line she very lovely toward older people 😊 she made my day 😊
Hillstreet Centre Middlesbrough High StreetOh dear, where shall I start?I was Barred unknowinglyDan (manager) if you are reading this, here is my side. The first encounter:(January) I came back to the shop after my final shift in December as I was looking for something that sticks to the wall but can be removed without damaging it, I know you had it because I had helped many customers (while working there as a Christmas Temp) to retrieve them. I had asked Ryan for assistance as he was a member of staff on shift for the day. He looked at me and said "No. I'm not gonna help you". I asked why and he gave me an unreasonable answer by saying the thing I was looking for did not exist. I had told him that it did exist as I had helped many customers in my time retrieve them. I knew they were in the shop, I didn't know where though. Horrible customer service! The Second Encounter:There is not much to say for this day as I had asked the Assistant Manager if they had some products in stock and without a second glance she went to look in the back. Great Customer Service! The Third Encounter :I came in to the store today and was looking for a men's manicure set and asked yet again Ryan if he knew where they were. He said I was barred from the store and by the Assistant Manager. I thought he was joking as he is a broody/sarcastic ex co-worker but he kept stating the same over and over again I thought he was joking so I shrugged it off. He then said the Assistant Manager had barred me from the store. Still taking this as a joke. I had gone to find one final product when I was at the checkout. I was told by Imogen that I was barred from the store bearing in mind that there were other co-workers who were present but they looked confusingly at me and Imogen from that statement. On my way home, I called Ez and asked her if she was able to ask Dan to contact me. She did so and soon I received a call from you at home.I'll tell the public the restI was told:I had created a disturbance while being on the premises.I was distracting the workersI was annoying the customersI was creating a problemI do admit to raising my voice towards the end when he said he won't listen. This man did not let me speak for the entire call as he was adamant that I was in the wrong. As far as I am concerned he had a one sided biased opinion and did not want to listen to my side.I do admit to raising my voice towards the end when he said he does not want to hear my side and said I was barred, I wasn't told how long for.Other employees are fine and nice to be around. Just look out for Dan and Ryan they are not what they seem to be!Dan, you have my number, call me and we can sort this out.
