I got a PHOTOBUCKET account years ago. The only reason I did was to share some family photos wth distant relatives who had never seen some of them. It was a free account. So, then they started charging, but for a while I could still see my photos, I just could not add any more. Fine! But now I get the crap over and over wanting me to PAY for space. First, I do not want to do so, I would like to get my pice back! And one of those pics that is probably on PHOTOBUCKET, is of my daugter, my only child, who died recently from cancer! I cannot even see if that particular picture id among those I have on PHOTOBUCKET, and think that the picture was taken from PHOTOBUCKET and used on some other site, without ANY pemission!!!I hate it that my child may be out there, he pic being used by STRANGERS. And I cannot get my pics back!! To those buttheads at PHOTOBUCKET (which I now understand is owned by OTELA, INC, (and apparently THEY are trying to dump PHOTOVUCKET) AND i HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THEY EVEN ARE. BUT THEY ARE A PIECE OF EXCREMENT!!!!!!
Very similar to the other stories. The website said if I paid $5 fee they could reinstate my old account with the pictures, I got the run around a few times after paying. Then a new support specialist accused me of having NSFW pictures (I checked their TOS, nudity is allowed just not obscenity) It was me when I was 20 at a club with my shirt off. So they banned my account an now claim to have no way to refund me. Disputing tbe charge and also going to file a BBB complaint or maybe more. (How many customers have they done this to for it to be outright wire fraud?)
Used to use them years ago when limited hosting was free. Forgot about it for a while, then started receiving emails about my account being 'locked' and any stored photos being deleted. They locked everything behind a subscriptionwall so I couldn't even review my photos, so I had to start a subscription just to save any photos I didn't have copies of and delete my account.Absolutely horrible company which is run by a bunch of sleazy scumbags. Avoid this site under any and all circumstances.
Since 2016, Photobucket has been trying to extort money from me (and many others) via spam email. I ignored them until today as I was fairly certain I have not used the platform. On December 11, 2024, a class-action lawsuit in the USA was filed against Photobucket after the company changed its privacy policy to allow Photobucket to sell user's photos to companies training AI models.Today, I started receiving several SPAM emails again stating, "Recover your old photos before they're gone forever." This time I did some investigating: A relative living in Denver, Colorado shared photos with me via a Photobucket link way back in 2008! That's how I ended up on the Photobucket's spam list... Since the GDPR this is completely illegal. Good news is: you CAN find and download any photos WITHOUT handing over any money by clicking "continue to account deletion." Keep going through about 3 screens but STOP when you get to the "Request download link". Click it and you will be sent a zipfile with any photos (if there are any). Once you download your zip file, now click "confirm account deletion" Done! I am hoping this helps others and you will no longer be plagued with these Spam emails.
Recieved email... apparently I have photos about to be deleted... I used google to log into Photobucket rather than any links via email just incase its a scam.... I used a one time code as I have no idea what photos I might have.... Once logged in just says pay 5 Dollars to get your photos... I would atleast expect some thumbnail of images so I can see or heavily watermarked images... but nothing... I expect many people pay to the 5 dollars and there arent any photo's....
So thankful for all those who wrote to let us know. Sure enough, I received the email telling the same story. Very well done email, you cannot tell by looking at it that you are about to click yet another scam. But thank God for. people willing to take a minute to filled out the comment section. Mine is long but its just to say THANK YOU... One pit fall avoided.
Like most of the people that have heard of Photobucket; I used the image hosting service roughly 10+ years ago. Recently I received an email saying that my account was inactive so long that it was about to be deleted. It informed me that in order to keep the account I needed to sign in.Curious to see my old photos I used the password reset tool and logged in. Immediately I was told to pay $5 or all of my photos would be deleted. There was no option to even see what photos I had stored. There is a reason this company is now an obscure thing from the past. Who leads a marketing campaign at past users and threatens them and tries to extort them. I’m glad photobucket has failed as an image hosting platform. Good riddance.
