Rat Race’s Isles Ultra was a leapinto both my first Rat Race adventure and multi-day event. The event was an experience I’ll never forget; for the fabulous landscapes with the multi-mixed terrain, the ever changing weather, the knowledge, skills and abilities of the Rat Race crew, who quickly picked up on what each person required and supplied it be it food, motivation, time out, a front seat in the bus or an impromptu pit stop disco and the comradeship of fellow Rat Racers. The Rat Race crew worked tirelessly both upfront and behind the scenes to overcome unexpected challenges and did an excellent job. All of this resulted in an adventure that is difficult to adequately describe in words and beyond doubt worth the continuous daily effort you need to put in to complete it.
This was my first Rat Race event. In fact I’d booked an ultramarathon with them a couple of years ago but needed to cancel due to injury. With 6 weeks notice they gave me an event voucher for the entire amount that I could use on any future event. For most ultras if you cancel you either lose your money entirely or only get perhaps 50% refund so I feel this is very fair. The event transfer process was pretty straightforward too, and I ended up booking the Isles Ultra. Everything about the event was fantastic, with great organisation, brilliant food and accommodation provision and attention to detail - little things such as your bags being all ready in your room when you arrive at the accommodation at the end of a long day make a huge difference on a six-day ultra. What sets them apart though is the team - every member of the crew was hard-working, kind and went above and beyond to look after competitors. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and will certainly be booking other events.
Had the pleasure of doing the Isles Ultra with Rat Race. What an event..so much fun, comradeship and a true challenge. Special note to James who was an incredible host and guide (if exceptionally poor at table football), Jools for his superb DJ skills and constant optimism and enthusiasm, Jacqs for one of the most memorable pit stops and the greatest wraps in the Outer Hebredes and Robyn for her pocket sized doctoring and stopping me from destroying my liver! Highly recommended event for those who want to push themselves to the limit and beyond
We met Rat Race via Dirty Weekend back in the UK and have done a few obstacle course races on the north. They have always been amazing and well organised. So when they launched the test pilot series we could not stop ourselves from booking one. However 2020 happened and we had to transfer our entry to another event. And how lucky we were! We took part in the Santorini Circuit 2023 (first group) and it was amazing from start to finish. They are super responsive and organise and the crew with us was nothing short of phenomenal! Very stocked on food and water through all the stops. They genuinely care about us having a great time. The welcome at the finish line is so invigorating! The weather was a bit windy, so they had to change the circuit a bit, but we do not feel like we missed out on anything. The views are to die for and the whole experience just out of this world. Thank you, Abbi and the crew, you were delightful and we hope to see you again on our next adventure.
My dad and I had a brilliant time in the Outer Hebrides with the Rat Race team and all the incredible runners! The team was absolutely amazing! Supportive and encouraging, always positive and there to help with absolutely anything. Robyn the medic was incredible, knowledgeable, supportive and just a ray of sunshine. Jacqs and Jools looked after us all with everything; they put in so much work into making everything run smoothly. And James, the event leader, who worked so so hard, as there was a ferry cancellation due to the weather, but James worked around the clock to make sure we got where we needed to be, and also being so accommodating to me and my injuries which I got on day 1. Would highly recommend Rat Race and this event!
I recently completed Isles Ultra(Outer Hebrides). The event surpassed all expectation. The Outer Hebrides being both beautiful and challenging. The support team were first class. James (event lead) was professional and I felt made sure everyone had an opportunity to reach their own goals for the challenge. The trip ran so smoothly and I know James worked hard to make this happen. Jools and Jaqs couldn't do enough to help, nothing was too much trouble, supporting and encouraging every step of the way. Medic Robyn may be small but she is dynamite, fixing us up to run another day, she is a gem. I know how hard they all worked behind the scenes ensuring our safety, comfort and giving us all the best chance at the event. Leo the photographer, not to be missed, sitting in pouring rain to get the best shot of us in action, then sprinting on to get the next shot. Thats dedication. A life affirming challenge, made even better by all the crew. I truly can't thank them enough. Siobhan McFeely
The location was extraordinary in the Hebrides, and this was the perfect test of how far you could go physically and mentally. Fell in love with the islands, the challengers were fab and the crew outstanding.James led the challenge for Rat Race and always had such a complex challenge in hand. Robyn the Doc was instantly there when needed and patched us up beautifully. Joolsy and Jacqs as crew just get it. Encouraging, sympathetic, and always brought you up in low tired moments. Love all these guys and grateful for seeing us through. It was epic and hugely grateful to the RR team and fellow challengers who made this an unforgettable experience!
Awesome experience on Outer Hebrides Tip to Toe!This is a remote set of islands off West Coast of Scotland -- we cycled, hiked, ran and kayaked in beautiful surroundings. It was hard physically -- we didn't sign up for it to be easy ;-). Did things go wrong? Yes. Buses broke down, twice. Accommodations on one night was rough (but roughing it is part of the deal, no problem). There were a couple medical issues. That's adventure. S**t happens. The team handled it well, the crew medic patched up cuts and bruises and we all did a bit of "impromptu group therapy" to patch up hurt souls... Things that would be easy to fix in the future... Food was plentiful and had a lot of calories to replace what we burned -- but monotonous. If you're looking for a "foodie adventure" this is not it. There was a safety hazard on the course that should be marked (and ideally a team member stationed there to help).

Participated in 2023 Hebrides tip to toe multi-sport event. Amazing environment, amazing support and top class problem solving across the whole experience. Support and camaraderie from both the Ray Race team and my fellow participants was great.
