We spent a week in Rio in late March 2026 and used Rio de Janeiro by Cariocas Travel for three private (i.e. dedicated, not group) tours. A half day in the Tijuca national park, a half day at the wonderful Barra de Guaratiba with Sitio Burle Marx garden and a full day trip to Petropolis. We had the same guide for each trip, who drove his own car. The guide went out of his way to ensure a good experience. So, on the basis of our experience, I can recommend Rio de Janeiro by Cariocas Travel.
We also went to the Roxy dinner show in Copacabana and Sugarloaf Mountain. I tried to book tickets for both of these using the official websites (not third party ones) but neither attractions’ websites would “allow” use of my UK credit cards. However, Rio de Janeiro by Cariocas Travel made these bookings and provided a simple online payment method, which worked.

Our guide Paolo and the whole team at Cariocas Travel were just excellent across the board. We took the whole family from Sao Paolo to Paraty to Rio, overland. It was a big undertaking, especially with a 3 year old! They made it seamless and easy, even with a last minute winter storm delaying everything and requiring extensive last minute changes. I can't recommend them enough.
Planning our trip and activities with Rio de Janeiro by Cariocas was absolutely the key to an amazing trip. From Airport transfers to every day pick ups, we felt safe and relaxed. They put together a varied, yet not overwhelming itinerary that worked perfect for our family’s 7 days in Rio. Communication was flawless, they gave us all the information for each tour and vouchers before we even arrived in Rio. Once there they sent drivers names and contact info at least 24 hours in advance for every tour or activity, and followed up after to make sure everything went well. They also recommended outstanding restaurants that we really enjoyed. Their guides were all very nice and very professional as well and we truly had the best time thanks to these great ladies. I found RJ by Cariocas Travel while researching for a trip to Rio on Google. I liked the idea of private tours, and that the prices were reasonable. I reached out to them through WhatsApp and they were responsive and helpful with questions. We did a custom 8-hour tour, which involved a 5 am pick up at the hotel to see the sunrise at Dona Marta viewpoint, first trip up to Christ the Redeemer, Selaron steps, Parque de Ruinas and then Sunday feijoada at one of the best places to get it in Rio (Santa Teresa neighborhood). The tour included our own car (airconditioned, yes!) and a multilingual (he speaks Spanish, French, German in addition to Portuguese and English!) licensed guide. Paulo was a professional and shared lots of knowledge and history, from geography to cultural history to pop culture. It was a great day and glad to have seen the sights with him. We paid about $130 and it was my husband and I on this tour. Highly recommend!!!
