Review Time
It's much easier than the old system I'd found a sailing with dog lounge and return, with an "any length stay offer" within a few minutes, rather than the half hour stressful experience it's been for a long while. Thanks very much Steam Packet 👍
I've consistently had a positive experience with the service provided, as the ships are always clean and travel is mostly on time, with delays typically due to weather conditions, which are unavoidable. However, my main concern is the price. Since this is the only option for vehicle travel off the Isle, and they are the sole provider for the island, the costs are quite high. If you plan to travel during events like the TT, Southern 100, or Manx Grand Prix, be prepared for prices that can triple.
I've been reaching out via email for about two months to inquire about sailings from Belfast, and I was informed they would be available soon. However, after following up recently, I was told there are no sailings from Belfast. I ended up booking from Larne and had to call the hotel for an additional night, which was quite stressful trying to organize everything.
Positive aspects:
The website is user-friendly, making it simple to choose your journey, which is a plus. Boarding, facilities, and food on the different boats are satisfactory, with the usual considerations of weather and the need to arrive early for your preferred location or seat. Areas for improvement:
It can be quite frustrating when you arrive early in a vehicle and face security checks or find yourself in a queue that boards after others who arrived around the same time—it's rather unpredictable. Essential improvements needed:
The booking website can be incredibly frustrating at times; if you encounter a payment issue (like a card not being accepted or validated promptly), you may have to wait over 15 minutes to try again and start the process anew. When traveling with multiple people and needing to update their details, the booking may time out, forcing a fresh start. Additionally, once you reach the payment stage, there is no summary to confirm your booking before making the payment, which often means starting over to double-check your details.
The low rating is due to the updated sailing schedule being released before it was bookable, without any notification on the website. We received different information from various staff, which suggests a lack of clear communication.
