I was overweight and had very unhealthy habits which were in turn leading me down not the best of paths. Sustainable Fitness helped me find myself again. As an apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Engineer working night shift, the lifestyle I lived started to take a real toll on both my physical and mental health.One day, while scrolling through Instagram reels, I came across some funny aviation posts. Little did I know that the man running the account would end up changing my life. After a lot of thought, I decided to join the fitness program. I was hesitant at first because I knew I would be the youngest and one of the few women in my field, but I was welcomed with open arms and an immediate sense of community. Working nights does not leave me with much of a social life, so getting to connect and share experiences with others in the group helped everything feel a little less lonely.Darren introduced me to Coach Dan, and together they have been like guiding pillars of light throughout this new adventure. At 40 years old and weighing over 15 stone, with my weight only increasing I was starting to worry about how I felt and I knew my health would be affected if something didn’t change. At that time when I realised this I was scrolling through LinkedIn and and came across a post from Darren at Sustainable fitness. It got me curious and looked at Darren’s page - we had quite a few mutual connections. His posts on LinkedIn were very relatable and hit home a bit. It ended up with me signing up to sustainable fitness and a journey to change my life going forward. I am almost a month in to the programme and have already seen a change in myself with even a few comments from family members. There’s a long road ahead to achieve my goal but Darren, Kris and Dan are there keeping me on that path to my goal weight. A bunch of very positive guys who know their stuff! As an aircraft engineer working shifts and raising a family I didn’t think I would be able to keep on top of the programme but it can be designed and suited to individual circumstances and with Darren’s similar background he knows the struggles that I would face. I’m a busy Mom, wife, and airplane mechanic and I had resigned myself to just being over weight. I’m 36 and in early peri-menopause and I had tried darn near every weight loss program out there! I’m just trying to balance 12 hour work shifts that were very high stress and exhausting and still present with my family with what little free time I have. The other programs I tried were just impossible to follow. Those programs either required me to spend endless time in the gym, which wasn’t realistic with my work shifts at all, or I was having to follow complicated diet plans that basically were just starving myself. It was so insanely frustrating! When I found Aviation fitness I was blown away that there was even a program out there that not only understood my crazy work/life balance but would work with all of that and not against it. The coach’s have been amazing and I cannot believe that I’m actually losing weight! I thought for sure I’d have to resort to giving myself weight loss shots but here I am, not even a whole month in, and I’ve lost 9 lbs! What’s been great too about Aviation Fitness is I find I’m not stressing about my meals and it feels like I have more time with my husband and son now!
