Dear Colleagues,I’ve recently completed several courses on your TrainingPortal platform over the past year, and as a long-time seafarer and returning user, I wanted to share some constructive feedback to help improve the experience. One area that could make a big difference is adding more user controls during video playback. For instance, features like rewinding, skipping sections, or adjusting playback speed (such as 1.5x or 2x) would be incredibly helpful, especially for those of us familiar with certain content. These are common on many modern learning platforms and could save valuable time while respecting our busy schedules.Additionally, optimizing the course videos for pacing and editing could streamline the process. Reducing long pauses, unnecessary transitions, and extended silences—such as the minute or so of empty screen time I noticed in one module—would make the sessions more engaging and efficient. With thoughtful edits and better time management, I think many courses could be shortened by 40–60% without losing any educational value. Allowing speed adjustments and skipping would enable users to achieve the same learning outcomes in less time, perhaps cutting an 16-hour course down to 8 hours, which would boost engagement overall.I also encountered some browser errors during my recent assessment attempts, which unfortunately caused the exam to fail and used up my available tries. I’ve already submitted an incident report to your support team, and I’m hopeful they can look into it to prevent similar issues for others.With over 20 years of experience at sea and having used various maritime training platforms, I’ve seen how other systems deliver informative content in a more responsive and user-friendly way. I’m sharing this because I believe your platform has great potential and could match or exceed those with a few updates.
