When our scheduling program announced that they were going to only function with about three choices for credit card processing, we were not happy. We love Acuity and certainly didn't want to be forced into a processor that was expensive just because they made a deal with one another. We did a lot of research and ended up choosing Square despite the additional expense over what we had been paying with Authorize(dot)net/Total Merchant Concepts. Since the change, I will say that Square is VERY friendly and easy to use. I also like that they just take the fees before the deposit is made rather than me getting a large bill/draft once a month for hundreds or thousands of dollars. My one complaint is that there is no room for mistakes and you get charged when a customer makes a mistake...in our case they made two back to back. We got charged on the two charges immediately, got charged two more times refunding the mistake, and got charged two more times when they made the correct payments. When en error is caught immediately, there is absolutely no reason that can't be waived or corrected before it settles. This is a money grab by a company that I otherwise have come to like despite my initial hesitation. Previous processors allow you to void or refund before it settles to avoid just that type of mistake. The result of being charged six huge fees for two classes put us operating in the red, it's already hard out here for small business but this is the big guys taking advantage of the little guys who are forced to do business with them.
I don't usually give poor reviews - but I have never worked with a company that was more infuriating and made it so difficult to get anything done. Over and over again. Their poor reps (I feel bad for them) are not actually empowered to help you. They are seriously hampered in their ability to respond to issues. And you usually can't escalate issues except under very specific circumstances or unless you are the owner. The reps often know less than you do about their own product. I have called in probably 30+ times (no exaggeration) and every single call but one was a complete travesty. Truly. They can't allow the right tech people to have the right permissions to get the job done. Only the owner can do many things, even if that owner has tried to pass that responsibility and capability over to others. There are so many hurdles and so much red tape it is ridiculous. Their hardline take on security has created an incredibly toxic environment that is completely dysfunctional. They think they own the relationship with the customer and will not give you access to use customer credit card information or usually gift card information, even if you would otherwise have every right to use it. If they make a mistake, you are the one who will have to pay the price because you will have to start over again by getting the owner involved AGAIN to give authorization and jump through their hoops. But you can't be on the line with the owner at the same time . . . so you hang up and the owner calls and then the owner hangs up and you call again, and then they still won't let you do your job because now it's a new rep who didn't personally get the owner's express authorization. Yes . . . it is that ridiculous. Please stay away from this company. You will thank me later.
