This business is a scam- specifically the Chattanooga location. Contacted this company for an inspection to see is our chimney was clear. The person showed up 2 hours early. He couldn’t see through the fireplace, so he said he would have to go on the roof. Then looked at the roof and said it was too icy. Said he would have to reschedule (not come back at the scheduled time when the frost would have been gone). Said they would call to reschedule. Paid the inspection fee though no inspection was completed. They never called. When my husband called them multiple times they didn’t answer. I called from a different number and they answered, apologized, didn’t reschedule, said they would call back - never heard from them again. Now they don’t answer when I call. This is a scam company. Avoid at all costs.
A technician came to service the pilot light in my fireplace. After taking apart the unit, he wanted to see where the gas line entered the house. I took him outside and suggested checking the propane tank, as it had just been filled and might have been turned off. He dismissed my suggestion, claiming it was irrelevant to the pilot light. He then confused my irrigation lines for the gas line and said everything seemed fine. Once back inside, he told me that the entire pilot light assembly needed replacing because the lines were 'corroded, rusted, and crumbling.' He quoted a total of $1,300, plus an extra $400 for a remote control I neither have nor want. He was very pushy about the remote and pressured me for a 30% deposit for materials before leaving. I only paid the $69 service fee plus tax. Later, I had another company inspect the fireplace. They confirmed there was no corrosion, rust, or degradation at all. The problem was simply that the gas tank had been turned off. The new technician showed me how to operate it, and once the gas was on, the pilot light worked perfectly. Additionally, the technician arrived with someone else who sat in my living room scrolling on his phone while others waited in their vehicle. The whole experience was unprofessional and uncomfortable. I reached out to request a refund, as their technician provided incorrect information and, in my opinion, quoted me for unnecessary work. I would not recommend this service under any circumstances.
The representative arrived with a friendly demeanor but quickly revealed intentions to scam us. During an inspection, he climbed onto the roof, pointed out some faulty chimney work, and then dismantled it without our consent. He quoted an outrageous price of over $3000 for repairs, only to lower it when I refused. Eventually, he claimed I owed him $200 for the removal of bricks, which he had done without prior approval. This experience felt like a clear attempt to exploit us.
If I could give zero stars, I would. First off, BHO actually doesn’t exist as advertised. We scheduled an inspection with BHO but a tech from Universal Chimney Duct Cleaning showed up. Turns out,BHO uses “affiliates” (as I was told by a rep when I called BHO) to do the work. I was also told by the rep that they are in the process of sharing licenses. Very sketchy.
Based off the professionalism of website and price, I thought I was getting a professional company. 2 guys showed up and appeared to be handyman business and were not friendly at all. Came in and asked what we were wanting, told them what we called for and before I could find out pricing for other services we were discussing they pulled the ladder up to get on the roof and taking pictures, started entering rooms on their own taking pictures in vents and telling me I needed a deep clean which wouldn’t fall under the promotional price and then wanted to look at dryer vent, said it was broken, cleaned it from the outside and provided me a quote for Chimney cleaning, flash repair and cap $1093. Deep cleaning of air ducts bc of mold and debris (?) $893. I told them I would like to wait and talk to my husband and they said I still had to pay $149 promo price for air ducts and dryer duct cleaning (didn’t touch air ducts and used a 12in brush on electric screwdriver to clean dryer duct that is 3ft long) and $69 for chimney inspection and 7% credit card fee. Also, they only took Venmo, cashapp, Apple Cash, check or credit card with 7% fee and I felt weary about giving my bank info and don’t use the others so I had to pay 7% fee. Will never use again. Very unprofessional and unfriendly. Do not recommend. Will definitely dig deeper next time for services.
