Wayne recently came to undertake the H&S and Fire annual inspection for my shop and cafe. He was understanding and empathetic and made constructive criticism. He offered some very useful advice, and I feel confident that I will be able to manage this side of my business more efficiently in the future
We have been with citation for a few years now but this was the first time Joanne had done our health & safety inspection. We first met Joanne last year when she carried out our DSEAR site visit. Joanne is great to deal with very friendly , helpful and patient with our questions. She covered a lot of information and her assistance was very appreciated.
We used Citation for HR and Health & Safety advisory services on a contract due to end April 2026.
We emailed at the end November 2025 to confirm we wanted to leave at the end of the term and not renew. We were told the contract required six months’ notice before renewal (deadline around October 2025) and that because we missed that window, it would auto-renew for a further 5 years. We then served formal written notice on 1st week of January 2026.
In practice, this setup makes it feel almost impossible to leave at the end of term unless you diarise the deadline far in advance — there was no proactive reminder, and the consequence of missing the date is a massive extra commitment.
My advice: based on our experience, I would avoid signing unless you are completely comfortable with a 6-month cancellation window and an automatic 5-year renewal, and you confirm in writing exactly how notice must be served.
Just called citation regarding my contract that is up on the 11th of Feb. Just been told I had to give them six yes SIX months notice and I now can’t end my contract for another 7 years as it is on a rolling contract that I certainly was not aware of. They said it was in the small print. Not one e-mail from them regarding the end of contract. I wonder why. Very very sneaky. I imagine I will end up in court for this but they will not be getting another seven years money out of me. Shocking, how to win friends and influence people eh !!!!

This company employs aggressive tactics against small businesses, so I advise avoiding them. My legal team described them as opportunists! They have an auto-renew policy every seven years but failed to notify me ahead of renewal, only reaching out after noticing we weren't utilizing their services. They falsely claimed we had downloaded numerous documents, which was untrue. When we asked for evidence, the company ignored our repeated requests. From an initial bill of £18,000, we settled for just over £2,000. They essentially attempted to take advantage! During one recorded call, their team admitted this is how they ‘acquire’ companies, claiming only 2 percent of clients complain. I don’t usually leave reviews, but this company deserves to be called out. It’s unfortunate, as some of their products are decent, but their dubious long auto-renew contracts exploit businesses. Shame on this company for their underhanded tactics.
