Currys - off to Hell in a Handcart

At one time if your washing machine broke down within a few months of purchase, one could simply go to Currys, they would own the problem (seeing as they had the money you had paid in full for the item) and they would see to it that the problem is solved (quite possibly by arranging for a replacement machine to be delivered). Not any more. Currys staff will say “oh yes we know about that problem, it’s happening a lot with that model” (that you bought from us in good faith). They will then fob you off with a telephone number to ring. This call centre will ‘vet’ you to see if you are a genuine customer (the receipt for your white goods apparently is no longer valid proof). When you ‘pass’ you will be given the real number of the manufacturers service provider. You will then spend more wasted time in a music fuelled queue until you will be asked a bunch of questions about how you have been using said washing machine (eg “are you using quality washing powder” “are you in a hard or soft water area”). Assuming you answer these insulting patronising questions correctly (without upsetting your call centre agent - be warned they are quite sensitive) you will be progressed to some local REFRIGERATION repair company. They will arrange to call to fix your washing machine without notifying you of the date or time, so you won’t be home. But they will leave a “sorry to have missed you” card so you can rearrange the visit. And then they come when arranged and fix the machine.

Rare store that actually works

Just good at what they do, staff are knowledgeable and helpful, prices are pretty competitive and have stock is near by store, you can just pick it up reliably same day or next day
