Review Time
I Bought a new cooker from Currys recently. I chose them on the assumption that as a big known company (and the cooker a kenwood for the same reason) they would be a trusted name for both installing and any problems. It’s clearly been a mistake. I truly advise no one to buy any large items from them, there are plenty of other companies with a much better service . It has really been a surprise how poor the whole operation has been. I don’t know if I’ve just been really unlucky but I’ve seen from other reviews that people have had to do the similar things . In my case, v quickly after delivery, it transpired that two of the dials on my new cooker were set wrong- one backwards, and the other , the oven dial, was out of sync so you couldn’t set the temperature correctly or see when the oven was off. As a brand new big item It was a very obvious problem, not only potentially unsafe but such an obvious oversight it questioned both the quality and the basic checks that had taken place on the oven as a whole . Within half an hr of delivery I reported this to Currys customer service for a return / exchange which I naively thought would be straightforward , particularly as I had been given a faulty appliance. However the computer hadn’t updated that my oven had been delivered so I was asked to call back next day. What happened then was basically a whole day of phone calls , first to currys ,then to Kenwoods (as currys needed me to contact the manufacturer!! for a code) and then back again as it turned out the oven was made by Currys directly. ( kenwoods guy said it happened regularly people being directed to them incorrectly ) Lots of explaining , lots of the same information filling, over and over, hours and hours of time with every single person giving contradictory advice , and often the wrong numbers to call. Despite the assurances on the website , despite me informing them within half an hour of delivery there was a fault, and a couple of days on the phone , I am now waiting nearly two weeks for an engineer to come, to apparently check it and give me a number before I have to ring them again to organise an exchange, which may be again, weeks. It just seems a very poor set up. Things can be faulty of course , but the response from Currys has been chaotic and random and no one I spoke to seemed to know what to do. I paid a decent amount of money for a cooker that was delivered faulty , and yet Currys are not taking ownership and rectifying the situation without a lot of wasted time. There doesn’t seem to be any standard responses to problems. For a customer to have to ring around all day and find out details from the manufacturer that the company who I bought it from should sort, seems a very peculiar practice , and now having to wait for an engineer for weeks before even starting the process of exchange seems very very odd. No idea how things will go or when I will get a functioning cooker. Truly look elsewhere for big appliances.
