I am deeply disappointed and disturbed by Garage’s recent advertising campaign using the headline “Show Off Your Best Ass(ets).” As a brand that primarily markets to young women and teenagers, this kind of messaging is irresponsible and inappropriate.Using wordplay to sexualize your customer base — many of whom are minors — is not clever marketing. It’s harmful. Young women deserve to be seen as whole people, not reduced to their bodies for the sake of a provocative tagline. I expect better from a brand with this much reach and influence over young shoppers. Until Garage takes meaningful steps to change how it portrays and markets to young women, I will not be spending my money here, and I encourage others to hold them to the same standard.
