I go to a school with GoGuardian, because I use a personal laptop with it they can spy on what I do OUTSIDE of my google tab, which includes the block feature, When I was playing fortnite outside of the "Forced study time" (which isn't allowed as its 2 hours after school ends) They had closed the game when I was about to win, they can also force open tabs and block searches. They also save your IP Address, Passwords and before October 2015, they could remotely turn on your camera. Sure it's removed but why even have it in the first place? Oh right, They don't want kids having privacy. Ban GoGuardian.
To anyone reading may I remind you that normally when people have a software on their computer that can watch their screen and control every aspect of their computer it’s normally called spyware, malware, ransomware and more so why then are we allowing 27 million kids across America be infected by this on purpose and why aren’t we at least knowing its code. Also if we are to breach the kids privacy in all these ways then can we not at least make sure it functions properly and doesn’t block you from using google search because butt came up in url random hash
I am a 6th grader I am not dramatic i listen to teachers and I do my work but when I search up something simple like for example how to draw a cat it would be blocked I do not suggest this
This shit sucks, it surveils everything i do, sometimes at home, and blocks "horror", but I can still access shit like "how to build a gun", or "how to build a pipe bomb". completely hypocritical for something made to "protect the kids"
my school has gogaurdian and its literally invasive to the point where it should be illegal. my family can't afford multiple laptops, so we all share a chromebook. my dad was trying to file our taxes, and it led to us not being able to access it because it kept saying "your administrator has blocked this site" constantly. we couldn't file our taxes, and we are in legal trouble.
this is out of school on a saturday.

It is honestly exhausting to feel like theres a pair of eyes over my shoulder even when I’m sitting in my own room. my house is supposed to be the one place where I , be myself, and do whatever pops into my head without worrying about how it looks to an administrator. With GoGuardian running, that sense of freedom totally disappears. I find myself second-guessing every search and closing tabs out of habit, not because I’m doing anything wrong, but because the idea of a teacher or an ai bot randomly "dropping in" on my screen feels like a massive invasion of privacy. It turns my personal space into second classroom, making it impossible to actually "leave" school at the end of the day. It’s hard to build a sense of independence or trust when I know that my mistakes, my interests, and my private time are all being logged and judged.
I'm using another account to write this because my school blocked my school account from submitting this but, I hate GoGuardian so much I swear. They literally block literally anything like stuff for entertainment? Blocked. Stuff that google creates? Blocked. LIKE I SWEAR WHY COULD TEACHERS, PRINCIPALS, AND THE DISTRICT SEE OUR PRIVACY???? To be honest, this just makes us look like fools. How do districts trust this in general when this could possibly affect our physical/mental health by blocking our favorite websites, chrome web store games, and then, we can't remove GoGuardian from our computers!? Not to mention, It doesn't turn off after school. Seriously.
I am a student at a school that uses GoGuardian and some 50% of students regularly bypass goguardian on their school-provided computers. on the other hand, GoGuardian regularly interrupts lessons whenever students are asked to watch a video or view a website(eg. a TED talk) and respond to or answer questions based on it. as shown in various recent articles, by default GoGuardian will record anything the student searches or writes down on the computer.
I have something called "Securely Classroom." It's SO close to goguardian it's actually funny.
Teachers can see our screens only at school. It may sound nice, but when you wanna just want to go on a forum website during your free time you just see that it's blocked by something called "Lightspeed Filter Agent." In result pinging the school device manager
Then they can limit tabs, close tabs, lock your screen (it's easy if you find a bypass), and everything else.
from what i have seen, many if not all students have problems with Go Guardian. Even though i might be one of the lucky ones who isn't so restricted, this isn't just a single school issue many students are effected, annoyed, angered and frustruated by this. If it limited the teachers power then it would've been fine but it doesn't, teachers can close tabs, set limits on open tabs, lock your computer and overblock websites that they need. I've been paranoid every since my teacher close a tab, its like having someone breath down your neck while doing something. We need to stop this, we aren't prisoners who need constant watching. FOR PRIVICY. FOR FREEDOM.
