My stay at the venue was extremely disappointing. I typically don’t write reviews, but the experience was so negative that I felt compelled to share. From the moment I arrived, it was a series of letdowns. Although the place appeared grand in photos, in reality, it felt neglected, poorly managed, and certainly not worth the price. The staff appeared disinterested and overwhelmed, often rude, and seeking assistance felt like a burden to them. The room was a major disappointment — worn-out furniture, questionable cleanliness, and an overall impression that it hadn’t been properly cared for in years. Even the most basic standards were lacking. Noise was another significant issue. With doors slamming, people shouting in the hallways, and general disorder, getting a good night’s sleep was out of the question. As for the so-called “amenities,” many were non-functional, and those that worked seemed like mere afterthoughts. The food was also underwhelming, and witnessing some staff behaving inappropriately made me lose my appetite entirely. In summary, it was a deeply disappointing experience from beginning to end. I left feeling drained, frustrated, and wishing I had chosen a different place to stay. I would not consider returning or recommending it to anyone.
Shockingly bad stay at the Grand Sapphire, CroydonI don’t usually leave reviews, but my experience at the Grand Sapphire was that bad. From the moment I arrived, it was one disappointment after another. The place might look grand in pictures, but in reality it felt tired, poorly managed, and absolutely not worth the money. The staff seemed disinterested and overwhelmed, extremely rude and getting any kind of help felt like an inconvenience to them. The room was a complete let-down — worn furniture, questionable cleanliness, and a general feeling that it hadn’t been properly maintained for ages. Even basic standards just weren’t there.Noise was another nightmare. Whether it was doors slamming, people shouting in the hallways, or general chaos, getting a decent night’s sleep was impossible. And let’s not even start on the so-called “amenities” — half of them didn’t work, and the ones that did felt like afterthoughts. Food was disappointing, could see some staff spitting, that alone put me off eating the rest of my dinner! Overall, it was a shocking experience from start to finish. I left exhausted, irritated, and wishing I’d stayed literally anywhere else. Definitely not somewhere I’d return to or recommend
If I could give zero stars, I would. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels before, but this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. First off, the beds were unbelievably uncomfortable — none of us got any sleep. My husband, my kids, and I were tossing and turning all night. The next day, my poor kids were so exhausted they ended up sleeping through the entire wedding event downstairs and missed all the fun, thanks to the awful night we had at the “Grand” Sapphire. But the real nightmare happened the next morning. My husband opened our hotel room door and was met by a completely naked woman who tried to push past him and our children to get into our room. She was fully naked. I tried calling reception from the room phone — it didn’t work. Tried from my mobile — no answer. When my husband went down to reception, they casually said, “Oh, this has happened before.” Absolutely disgusting. How a hotel allows random naked strangers to wander around and knock on guests’ doors is beyond me. Total lack of security, total lack of professionalism. Please, don’t waste your money or your peace of mind here. You’d be much better off at a Premier Inn — at least you’ll be able to sleep safely and comfortably.
I'm shocked to see such high reviews from others because this is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The check-in process took 1 hour because of so many complaints and back-and-forths from other guests. There was only 1 member of staff at the desk, and when I was finally given my room key card, someone else was already in said room getting dressed. This is a massive safety concern. The bedroom itself is terribly outdated, and quite shocking to say the least. The bins weren't emptied from the previous guests! The only "nice" part of the hotel were the communal areas, it's obvious the entire budget it spent "convincing" people through those areas. Although there were parking spaces, I was not allowed to park as promised because of an award show that fell on the same day. Breakfast was limited and cold. There was also a limited seating area, with no one clearing dirty plates. This hotel also does not have a restaurant or bar. Just an all-round terrible experience.
I had a very disappointing experience. The lifts weren’t working, even though I made it clear when booking that I have mobility issues. The receptionist assured me the lifts would be fixed by the next morning, but that turned out to be untrue — he knew he wouldn’t even be on duty then. The staircase was unstable and shook when used, which is unsafe and a serious hazard. The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, showing no understanding of my situation, and they are not suited for customer service. I have emailed the hotel several times since my stay, but my messages have been ignored. Overall, this was an awful experience — unsafe, poorly managed, and completely unsuitable for anyone with mobility concerns.
Absolutely shocking treatment by Sufiyan . Was very rude and even hung the phone on me . Was going to book 10 rooms but now have to find somewhere else . He had quoted me a price and I tried to give him my card details to book it but then he increased the price all of a sudden .
Horrendous experience. Arrived after a long day ready to relax and enjoy a nice meal. Hotel has no restaurant and no bar so we had to brave the rain to find a local restaurant. On our return there were two functions running and deafening music coming up through the floors. Tried to complain but were told 'tough' effectively. Avoid
I had the displeasure of staying for I night when I had originally booked for the week.I checked into what was supposed to be one of their VIP rooms... it definitely wasn't! I noticed a horrible smell in the room, and, on checking, I discovered that the mattress topper was filthy and stained with urine, and there were black hairs (not mine) all over it.It was, by far, the worst hotel I have ever stayed in... never to want to go there again! Thank goodness for the Premier Inn across the road.As other reviewers have said - if it was possible to give zero stars, I would. Please avoid staying here
