Review Time
This was my third booking with Green Motion Larnaca. The first two rentals were excellent, and I gave very positive feedback.
For this latest booking, my reservation became non‑refundable 48 hours before pickup. Around 12 hours into that period, the Iran conflict led to airspace closure, and my flight was cancelled, so I contacted the station roughly 24–36 hours before pickup.
I was told I could rebook for later dates instead of losing my payment, but the new quote for the same car and full insurance was higher than the price on Green Motion’s own website for the same dates, even after I sent screenshots. When I asked them simply to match the website rate, they refused, told me it was “better to cancel”, and then did not cancel so the booking went through as a no‑show.
The amount at stake was only 115 EUR, but as a matter of principle, I cannot justify continuing to give regular business to a company that will not align its offers with its own published prices, especially after promising flexibility during an exceptional disruption. We have multiple potential rentals each year, which will now be directed to other providers—a real shame, given how strong our first two experiences were.
Meeting at the airport makes it very convenient, as you don't need to stand in queues after a long flight. All staff were great. Check-in and check-out is very efficient. Probably one of the best car rental companies I have used in SA. Wish they had more drop off points along the Garden Route!
Despite telling me I would get a reimbursement on my recent very poor car rental the company is now going very quiet and will not respond to any of the emails I have sent requesting an update on when I will see a reimbursement. I am disgusted by their attitude.
UPDATE - Response to Green Motion's generic reply:
"Your generic, automated response is an absolute disgrace. Instead of taking responsibility for the predatory practices at your Zurich branch, you send me a link to fill out more forms?
This is a clear and calculated exploitation of customers. You charged my card 1,657.74 CHF for a microscopic scratch that was 'conveniently' found only after I had left the premises. This isn't a fair procedure; it’s a systematic shakedown of tourists.
Do not dare to call this charge 'fair' or 'justified'. Anyone who sees the photos of the 'damage' alongside the astronomical bill understands that this is a scam. In fact, EconomyBookings has already approved my full reimbursement of €1,700, which proves that even third-party providers recognize your claims are baseless and inflated.
It is shameful that an international brand allows its branches to operate like a tourist trap. I will continue to share my experience on every possible platform to ensure no other traveler falls into your trap. Your lack of ethics is appalling
We've booked a car through Easy jet and ended up with this unbelievable bunch of thieves. We returned the car undameged, as per their Vehicle Condition Report Form. We have been told that our deposit will be unblockled very soon. In reality, they took the deposit of 1.550 pounds from my wife's card! A month a half later, after impossible phone calls (you can't reach anybody, just answering machines), after many mails(where they admitted the mistake), we still didn't get the money back! It is a fraud. We have to go to the police and report them. Do not trust them, do not go near them, stay away from them.
I've rented cars worldwide, but I've never encountered a company quite like this. Our flight was delayed, and upon reaching their office—which is quite far via shuttle bus—I found it closed at 12:20 AM, leaving no option to collect the rental I had arranged. We had to book a nearby hotel for the night. The next day, I spent over two hours waiting for the car. I did meet a pleasant representative named Shan, and I received a decent vehicle, which was a plus. However, upon returning it, another representative immediately claimed that the wheels were severely scuffed and insisted it would cost me over £195 plus VAT to repair. He seemed eager to charge me and lacked basic courtesy. After that, I was left waiting for the shuttle back to the airport, which had already departed, forcing me to wait an additional 35 minutes for the next one. I nearly missed my flight, and the customer service was virtually nonexistent. I wouldn't recommend this service to anyone; stay away.
The shuttle service to the agency was convenient, and picking up the car was efficient, with good service at the agency. Returning the car was also quick. However, the major issue was the delay in receiving the deposit, which took over two months despite multiple follow-ups with both the management and the platform.
Living in Cyprus, we noticed a scarcity of electric cars. When I reserved a hire car for just one day, it should have been made much clearer that it was an electric vehicle. Unfortunately, it couldn't take us to the museum and back, leading to significant additional charges for upgrading to a fuel car. This marks the second time in a month that I've encountered similar issues with rental cars, being pressured into paying for an upgrade at pickup. It appears that local partners are increasingly resorting to money-making tactics.
I initially felt pleased with the reasonable price of around £400 for a 28-day rental of a small car. However, when I attempted to extend my rental by just one day, I was shocked to be charged an additional £180 for that single day. I genuinely feel taken advantage of! Moreover, I have received no response from the customer service through phone or email. Overall, this experience has been very disappointing, and I will definitely avoid this service in the future.
