I recently booked a stay at Abbey House through Group Retreats, and I must express my disappointment with the entire experience, particularly concerning their communication and handling of the damage deposit.Upon booking, I was required to pay a hefty £1500 deposit for a mere two-day stay at Abbey House, which was twice the amount of the booking itself. This exorbitant deposit immediately raised red flags, but I proceeded, expecting a smooth process for its return after my stay. However, the communication from Group Retreats post-booking was nothing short of frustrating. Despite expecting an email regarding the return of my deposit immediately after checking out, I heard nothing. I took the initiative to email them the day after checkout, then again the following day, but received no response. This lack of communication continued even after placing multiple calls to their support line, where promises of callbacks and information were consistently unfulfilled. When I finally managed to speak with someone, they claimed there was damage—a 'wine stain on a table'—though they couldn't specify the cost and promised to follow up. This process of back-and-forth, with me initiating most of the contact, dragged on for days. It took them three days to confirm a meager £100 charge for removing the said stain. The entire ordeal lasted for two weeks post-checkout before I finally received my deposit back, minus the deduction for the alleged damage. Such a prolonged and arduous process for a simple matter like a deposit return is utterly unacceptable. It's worth noting that many other holiday rentals do not require such exorbitant deposits for short-term stays and it seems more like a tactic to compensate for their supposedly discounted rates compared to other platforms like Airbnb.I strongly advise against booking through Group Retreats directly. The lack of communication and transparency, coupled with the excessive deposit requirements, make the experience more of a hassle than a relaxing holiday. If you're set on one of their properties, opt to book through a third-party website that offers better customer support and assistance. Don't subject yourself to the frustration of chasing after Group Retreats just to receive a confirmation of your deposit return.
The building is excellent, with a well-maintained garden, bathrooms in every room and a kitchen that is easy to use and well equipped.I have great memories of evenings spent with friends in front of the fireplace watching the bonfire. The kids had a blast in the outside jacuzzi. We stayed in March with 20 people and there was much space that even all felt it was so big.The hosts were very attentive at check-in and everything went smoothly.Thank you for a wonderful three days.We would like to come back again.
We stayed at Glentworth Hall for my partners 30th Birthday. It was the perfect venue for us from start to finish. The most beautiful, well kept, spacious house, incredible hot tub, amazing facilities, gorgeous grounds. It was hands down one of the best weekends we've had. We had 33 people to stay and it never felt even remotely crowded, we especially enjoyed hosting large dinner parties in the dining room. The groundskeepers were really helpful and quick to respond, going out of their way to offer more firewood etc. All in all, couldn't have asked for a more perfect weekend.Maeve Black
Our experience at Caer Beris Manor as a wedding venue was absolutely delightful. This stunning estate exceeded all our expectations and provided the perfect backdrop for our intimate and special day. From the moment we set foot on the grounds, we were captivated by its beauty and historic charm. The picturesque surroundings and the majestic character of the house itself made every moment feel magical. It truly felt like a happy house, enveloping us in warmth and creating an atmosphere of joy and celebration. Our wedding weekend was elevated to new heights thanks to the enchanting setting of Caer Beris Manor. The memories we created in this idyllic location will stay with us forever. We cannot recommend Caer Beris Manor enough to couples looking for a wedding venue that combines elegance, charm, and a touch of history. Thank you to the staff for their impeccable service and for making our special day truly unforgettable.
I celebrated my 40th birthday at Abbey House with a group of friends and family and it was incredible! The house is absolutely beautiful and kitted out with everything you need. The grand surroundings are the perfect setting to just relax or get dressed up to the nines and feel like royalty. The hot tub is an extra special touch and got plenty of use. The admin team were extremely efficient and check-in and out was straight forward.
We stayed at Castle Eden for NYE 2024. We were excited to stay because the property looks amazing in the photos. When we got there it was even better than we'd hoped. It is an unbelievable property. We had over 30 people in the house and there was plenty of room for everyone and loads of things to keep us busy. I highly highly recommend this property and Group Retreats generally. They were great and we would definitely book with them again.
We stayed at Fawley Court between Christmas and New Year. We were delighted to find such a spacious and stunning property that could house our rather large group. The pool was a big hit with all of the children as well as the games room. We would love to return.
