Best trip with Happy Campers

We rent a camping van from Happy Campers and got the best well-equipped camping van that Iceland can offer: kitchenware, Tablet with GPS and recommendations for the trip, free Wifi and more. And all that with an amazing service, While we drove the van we had a technical problem, and when we contact Happy Campers they provide us with an alternative van and help us with fast and professional feedback. If you want the best trip in Iceland - choose Happy Campers.

Great Affordable Camper Van Option

Happy Campers did a fantastic job and we feel we got more than we paid for all considering the other options various campers told us they chose instead. Their vehicle worked great and I felt safe driving throughout the ring road 1 and 2. The sleeper seats were comfortable and the cooking space was just the right amount we needed to prepare our daily meals. I wish I could remember everyone's name who helped us. Joe promptly picked us up at the main office and took us back to the airport! What an awesome guy.

NOT ONE TO GIVE A BAD REVIEW BUT Happy…

NOT ONE TO GIVE A BAD REVIEW BUT Happy Campers should review the van vents, biting gnats infiltrated our van in reykjadalur through the small rooftop mesh vent one night and we woke at 3am with a swarm in our van! NO JOKE! My wife, I, and two young kids 3 and 5 have bits all over. I had to tape over the vent and drive 45 mins to another campground. We were elated about using Happy Campers, so many great reviews and recommendations. Our experience was really unfortunate. Started out on arrival, 30 mins of standing around then finally greeted, another 2hrs until given a tour of our vehicle which we had to rush through since our rental car was due to return an hour prior. The paid for car seats we received had food remnants on them, they offered another set unprompted but were equally as encrusted. When we finally left we noticed how nasty and broken the van was. Refrigerator door was melted on the top and broke so overtime you lifted, it would fall off. The weather stripping was falling off around the windshield and doors, so we had to try and reattach it several times. The van tires were not filled properly and it was always pulled hard to one direction. Finally the van had a gnarly smell to it, like a teenagers boys room. We got used to it after a day but it made me alittle sick at first. Positives: Sheets/pillows were clean, stain free, and comfortable but not long enough to cover your feet. Sink and burner worked as advertised with enough propone for several weeks. Sharp knife. Fun to have a place to lay down and make soup after a long hike. Bottom line there are many other van rental options that have equally awesome looking equipment and are comparable to pricing. Be transparent as to your expectations of what you're receiving.

Don't rent Happy Campers

Don't rent Happy Campers, we absolutely don't recommand it! We had a van for 1 month in New Zealand in january 2020, in very bad shape, with tyres so old that we had a low tyre. We had to pay (tyre and AA intervention) and Happy Campers did not pay back and still don't answer our mails 4 months after. Many other problems including security. We wish we had paid a little more with other companies with vans in better shape.

We are VERY Happy Campers

I am glad we chose Happy Campers for our rental in Iceland. We went in November 2019 which gave use a discounted hire rate, making our holiday in Iceland as cheap as they come! They were reliable and friendly in their communications. We hired the van Happy 2 for myself and my girlfriend for 5 days. The van was a simple camper conversion but with everything you need including a very effective heater (we were camped in -8 degrees on some nights and in snow!) excellent fridge and even a sink with running water. Tristan from Happy Campers was very friendly and laid back. He did a good job of picking us up at the airport, offering us friendly advice and reassuring us by making a detailed examination of the vehicles condition prior to rental. We took out the gravel insurance as an extra which I would recommend. We had the BEST 5 days in Iceland. So much so we can't wait to return next year, hire the VW 4x4 with Happy Campers and explore the highlands! Thanks Tristan and the team. We are VERY Happy Campers

Terrible after service

We rented a van for 4 days. We selected the premium insurance coverage for €45 per day, which was having a cap for any incident of €600 and it was supposed to cover windshield, etc… (my mistake: I thought that coverage was also for other damages as lamps, etc…). Staff at happy campers was professional and helpful. Unfortunately, on the trip, one night, getting out of a parking lot, as there were not street lights, I hit back a stone, damaging a little bit the bumper and 1 tail light. I informed about it when returning the van. The staff confirmed that the only damaged parts were the plastic bumper and the tail light. The staff instructed that how happy campers works is, it charged the full €600, sends the van to repair, and in 1 or 2 weeks, when the van is back from repair (only the bumper and the tail light repair/replacement), happy campers returns the difference eg: if the repair cost is €350, they return €250. When I came back to UK, I checked the cost of both spare parts was max €135. But anyway, being Iceland more expensive + labour, etc… I assumed that it will be more expensive, but still some money would be left to return. 3 weeks passed with no news, I wrote happy campers. After 2 days they replied that they will come back to me. After another 2 weeks (5 weeks) I wrote again. After 3 days, they sent me an invoice (no signed, no stamped, no plate No), indicating that the total cost cos c.€700. No more explanation. I checked the invoice and translated the 4 items listed for repair. And I realized that most of the cost c.€500 was for 2 items painting and paint. As confirmed by the staff member who checked the van, there was not any damage in the paint of the van. To replace a tail light and a plastic bumper, you do not need to paint. I complained to Happy campers but no reply at all. Very unhappy with the after-service. We selected happy campers (which is more expensive than other options) and a more expensive van, a premium insurance, etc… to avoid this kind of troubles. I will be putting a claim in the Iceland consumers office and check which other actions I could take. But anyway, very disappointed with happy campers.

Do not give them your payment information

1. I asked them how they store my payment information: they store it on a piece of paper behind the counter and in a safe overnight. But when I was there, the safe was OPEN. Around 5 minutes later there were even no coworkers in the room. Literally any coworker + other customers could steal my private payment information.2. They store your payment information for 6 months! According to GDPR it should be kept for the absolute shortest time required and at least be stored safely (encrypted cloud etc. and NOT on paper). This company straight up don't care about GDPR or your privacy.

Best vacation ever! 10/10

We had a wonderful time with HappyCampers! We originally tried another company, and when that fell through, we turned to HappyCampers for our road trip around Iceland. What a happy accident! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and willing to teach us basic Icelandic phrases. We were a little hesitant at first–we're not really a camping family, and we didn't know what to expect. We ended up having a blast! We were traveling with two adults and two children, and the largest of the vans was perfect for us. The adults slept on the bottom, and the kids took the upper berth. My favorite feature was the kitchenette: we always had fresh water (refilled at campgrounds around the country), and we were able to cook on the road. We had so many people ask us about the van and its functionality, and many others that poked their heads in to check it out!The van came with a small broom (very helpful for cleaning out the bits of debris that we picked up) and a map for the kids (ok, and us) to fill in, among other things. As we added extras to our package (HIGHLY recommend the extra sleeping bags!), I couldn't tell you about standard bedding.Overall, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that changed how we view both camping and international travel. 10/10 would recommend!
