Review Time
I honestly used to be a die hard namecheap customer for years, but one day decided to check to see if anyone had better prices, and stumbled upon IONOS. I've purchased 20+ domains from IONOS, and have always had nothing but great experiences every time! They have amazing prices, and a lot of times offer a bundle of domains (.org, .store, .cloud, etc.) in the name you're purchasing for $1 for the first year as well, which I've never seen anyone else do. During certain times of the year, they'll also offer awesome free trials or significantly reduced prices on services like VPS and web hosting, which I've also never seen any other company do. Overall I have had zero complaints with the company, and are my top recommendation for anyone who is looking to purchase a domain.
Randy was extremely helpful and patient this morning as he guided me through navigating and updating my art website, which I hadn’t edited in quite some time. Thanks to his help, I was able to get the information and results I needed.
Whenever I call for support, tech answers promptly. Tech support is knowledgeable and they take the time to walk me through the problem-solving process. I'm impressed!
She had a full understanding of all the products, understood my needs fully and did not try to sell me things I did not need. She also set up some of my products so that they actually worked. She is completely customer focused
I have been waiting for nearly 48 hours for the service to be canceled and my cpanel restored. I am losing days on my hosting contract because of this outrageous cancellation policy. I have now reported IONOS to the FTC for violating federal law. The cancellation process is so hard that it is an obvious move to trap customers into a faulty ecosystem. I absolutely regret dealing with this company, and I am still trying to keep my hosting and domain because moving it all elsewhere is very difficult as well.Read below for a more detailed explanation of the violations of United States federal law.
It is now apparent to me that IONOS deliberately violates the Restore Online Shoppers Confidence Act (ROSCA) by trapping consumers in a digital dark pattern. Despite signing up for a month-to-month websitenow service entirely online, there is absolutely no mechanism to cancel the service through their digital interface. This forced telephonic cancellation is an illegal artificial barrier designed to artificially inflate their retention metrics. I have officially filed Federal Trade Commission Report number 198188424 to document this deceptive consumer entrapment.
The hypocrisy of their customer service is staggering when contrasted with their internal communications. Solutions Manager Dave Ramsay proactively reached out via email regarding a previous review, claiming, "We always strive to provide the best possible service to our customers, and your feedback is our most-valued resource in this effort." He explicitly acknowledged my intention to transition back to a WordPress site and promised, "I can ensure your domain is with the one plan you intend on keeping and have the other cancel and refund." Yet, when I replied directly to this supposedly "most-valued" feedback channel to execute the cancellation within their recognized "original 30-day money back guarantee," I was met with complete silence. It has been well over 24 hours and still not a word.
Their correspondence further boasts that "The Executive Solutions team is available Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM Eastern Standard Time," but they simply ignore direct replies to their own outreach.
Forced back into their trap, I called their support line only to be told it takes twenty-four hours to escalate a cancellation request and that I would supposedly receive a callback. Because I am trapped in this pending cancellation purgatory, I remain completely locked out of my main cPanel and cannot install my WordPress site, hijacking valuable time from my hosting plan. IONOS will take your money online instantly, but they will stonewall, ignore communications, and violate federal statutes when you attempt to leave.
I never leave bad reviews for companies but this one deserves as many as possible. And yes this is my second review in two days because this is a newly arisen issue following yesterdays debacle.
Ionos and Godaddy: thief companies
Godaddy.com and Ionos: thief companies
I created a website with Company IONOS (*a**association.com), but a problem arose, and the contract was terminated.
IONOS passes my domain to thieves: One of the accomplices: Godaddy, they stole the website name, which I had painstakingly researched, and put it up for sale without my permission.
Now, I can only get my website back by paying an exorbitant sum that I cannot afford.
Yes, it's legalized theft.
A gang of thieves enriching themselves at the expense of others.
The website is horrible to work with. I have fought for days just to figure out how to get website builder. When I first went to the site, it said build a site in minutes, click here. It offered ai supported building so I paid. Well, it turns out the hosting package THEY directed me to doesnt have a website builder. I went through the entire site to find the website builder and when I couldn't find it, I sought support. Nope no online support. You have to CALL THEM!It is nuts that a tech company doesn't have live chat support or even email support. I don't want to sit on a phone. So I went to Gemini - yep, the Google AI - to get answers. Gemini figured out I needed to purchase a web builder thing which I did for the month to month with the first month free.
Then I began my trek to figure the site out. I have been building websites since I was a kid and know html personally. And this web builder makes that look easy. I started with the ai prompting. I was informed I would be able to prompt ai to get a high quality site. I just got another canned template with some colors removed. Oh well I thought, I'll just use the editor. Oh, that was a mistake.
I had to delete everything the ai did, fought for hours to get my background image for the first page, and have struggled with putting my text where I want it. It forces you to use templates when you want to put in a section. I can't build my own style of navigation. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get my logo to appear. The button elements don't have options. Only a single size button and while it claims I can resize it, I haven't been able to. The button might as well be a form radio button it is so small.
The mobile site and desktop site have differences that make it obvious that the page isn't rendering right. I don't like scrolling sites so I deleted all the middle garbage and it left a white space on the desktop site forcing users to scroll.
I absolutely hate this web builder and will be seeking a refund most quickly.
And to top it all off, when you put in your PayPal information, they don't charge it right away, only authorize it. Then three days later send you an invoice that makes no sense whatsoever. It took me a phone call just to figure out it was for what I already ordered.
And of course I had to call. The guy I talked to was wonderful, so that isn't a problem. But it is absolutely insane there is no online support for a web company in 2026.
IONOS Inc. lures customers in with a flashy $1.00 per month promotion, but what they don’t clearly emphasize is what happens next. After signing up, I was blindsided with charges of $122 per month. That’s not a small increase — that’s a trap.
When I contacted them to cancel, thinking this was an obvious mistake or at least something they would work with me on, I was told that even if I cancel the service, I am still obligated to pay for the full annual contract — meaning 12 months at $122 per month. So essentially, once you’re in, you’re locked in.
This is not customer service — it’s a hostage contract.
The pricing structure feels intentionally misleading. The promotional rate is clearly designed to get you in the door, and the long-term commitment terms are either buried in fine print or not adequately explained during signup.
A reputable company should:
Clearly disclose renewal pricing in bold, not hide it.
Offer reasonable cancellation options.
Work with customers instead of enforcing punitive billing policies.
Instead, IONOS chose to enforce a rigid contract over basic fairness.
If you value transparency and ethical billing practices, look elsewhere. There are plenty of hosting providers that don’t rely on bait-and-switch tactics.
I strongly advise anyone considering IONOS to read every line of the contract and think twice before entering into an annual agreement.
Very disappointing experience.
I am extremely disappointed and feel completely scammed. I just created an account to purchase the domain telovendopa.com. Immediately after the transaction was processed, my account was deactivated.
Now, I am stuck in a position where I don't have the domain I paid for, and I don't have my money back. To make matters worse, the site advertised a price of $1.10, but my credit card was charged $5.00. This is misleading and completely unacceptable.
I need this resolved immediately. Either reactivate my account and provide the domain I purchased, or issue a full refund to my card. This is incredibly poor business practice.
