If you have the chance to choose a different airport, I recommend doing so. My experience was quite disappointing both on departure and arrival. The security process on departure was frustratingly slow, taking an hour to get through, leading to a long line of anxious travelers worried about missing their flights. Despite having updated scanners that allow you to keep laptops and liquids in your bags, the staff were not positioned effectively. There weren’t enough bag scanning machines operational, which caused the long wait times. Better management could have alleviated the situation, but the system felt overwhelmed. On arrival, passport control was relatively quick, especially for those with carry-on luggage. However, our baggage took 40 minutes to arrive, making for a sluggish exit after landing. We parked in the long-stay lot, and the bus driver spent 20 minutes chatting with a friend on the adjacent bus. The total time from landing to finally driving away was an hour and 20 minutes, which is not an experience I would eagerly repeat.
If you have the option to select another airport, I suggest you take it. My experience was quite unsatisfactory both when leaving and arriving. The security process on departure was extremely slow, taking an hour to navigate. This led to a long line filled with stressed travelers anxious about missing their flights, as well as those trying to push past others to reach the gate. Even with the new scanners that allow you to keep laptops and liquids in your bags, the staff were not effectively positioned. There weren't enough bag scanning machines in operation, resulting in the long waits, while some staff members stood idly by at the body scanners. Improved management could have eased the situation, but the system felt overwhelmed. On arrival, passport control was fairly quick, especially if you only had carry-on luggage. However, our baggage took 40 minutes to come through, making for a slow exit after landing. We were unfortunate to park in the long-stay lot, and the bus driver spent 20 minutes chatting with a friend on the adjacent bus. The total time from landing to driving away was an hour and 20 minutes, which is not an experience I would wish to repeat, particularly when I had a much quicker exit from another airport during peak summer season.
Having flown into most UK airports during my career, I must commend the facilities and staff at Luton for their assistance with mobility issues. Their support is top-notch, and I greatly appreciate their efforts in making travel easier for disabled passengers.
They’ve eliminated the free 15-minute pick-up window at the mid-stay lot. Thanks! You can pay for 'express pickup' for £7, but the form won’t let me enter an arrival time past 9 am today—my flight lands at noon. So it’s completely unusable. Thanks! Also, the privacy statement for this service is terrible. Thanks! I filled out their Contact Us form, but it won’t submit, stating, 'Sorry, there was a problem sending your enquiry. Please try again later.' Thanks! Such widespread incompetence seems possible only when a business model creates a captive customer base, as it does here. They don’t have to try, so they don’t. Pathetic and disgraceful.
We booked the meet & greet service for parking, now called Drop&Go. The signage was very poor. Then at security—endless walking through empty pathways, a security machine broke down, and at the gate—total chaos. The airport feels like it’s from a third-world country. It's absolutely disgraceful.
Our flight arrived at the terminal at 2:15 pm, but no staff appeared for over 20 minutes to guide us to the terminal building, which was right in front of us. No wonder there are constant delays here. Then at passport control, where there are usually long queues. Ironically, today, as one of only two planes disembarking, we moved through quickly. Additionally, the negligence of allowing a car park to catch fire due to cost-cutting on sprinklers and the £7 minimum charge to drop off without access to the terminal is frustrating. The airport wifi is unreliable, and mobile signals are almost non-existent. This airport is a complete mess; its management should be ashamed.
