M&T Bank's computer is failing in math, and their customer service has failed as well. I contacted M&T Bank because I overpaid in escrow, and they want to overcharge me when the mortgage is not in default. I brought this to the M&T representative Sierra's attention, asked to be transferred to a specialist, but she said there is nothing they can do and hung up on me.

As a long-time customer of this bank, I am profoundly disheartened by their handling of a recent issue. My son fell victim to a scam involving a fraudulent check, and upon discovering this, I promptly reached out to the bank to report the incident. I acted honestly, detailed the situation, and sought their advice. Rather than offering support to a loyal customer trying to do the right thing, the bank opted to close all my accounts. This was incredibly frustrating, especially since I was the one who reported the fraud and looked for help. I anticipated empathy and protection, not repercussions for my honesty. I sincerely hope the bank reassesses its approach towards loyal customers who voice their concerns. This experience has left me feeling abandoned during a time when I needed support the most.

As a long-time customer, I am extremely disappointed with how a recent situation was handled. My son was scammed into depositing a fraudulent check, and upon discovering this, I contacted the bank immediately for assistance. Instead of receiving support, all my accounts were closed, which was upsetting since I was the one reporting the fraud and seeking help. I expected understanding, not punishment for being honest. I hope the bank reevaluates its treatment of loyal customers who come forward with concerns, as this experience left me feeling unsupported when I needed help the most.

Unacceptable Treatment of a Longtime Customer

I have been a customer since 2011, following an acquisition. Generally, I was satisfied with the service until recently, when I received a threatening letter stating my account would be frozen and closed if I didn’t verify my information. While I understand the need for KYC compliance, sending such a letter as a first notice is absurd. I called the provided number, confirmed my details with the representative, and was assured everything was resolved. A month later, without warning, my account was frozen, affecting my payments to creditors and causing embarrassment. The first notice of this action was another letter, with no alerts on the website or through text messages. I spent over an hour trying to resolve this across various departments, where they acknowledged their error yet still froze my account. When I requested to speak to a supervisor, I was only given an address for their advocacy department. No one deserves this treatment, especially a loyal customer. I will be taking my banking elsewhere.

Avoid This Bank to Prevent Frustration

Wait times exceed an hour to speak with representatives. Unfortunately, I've only had a few positive experiences over the years; most interactions have been with rude staff. When I call about my own money, I feel treated like a criminal. I've encountered numerous mistakes, and my account faced over twelve fraud incidents in a short time. Even after receiving alerts and confirming my attempts to access my funds, I was denied. Please spare yourself unnecessary stress and avoid this bank!

Inconsistent CD Rates Based on Zip Codes

I visited a branch to renew my 6-month CD and discovered that the rate I received was based on my account address rather than the branch I visited. Different zip codes lead to different rates, which is not the case with other online banks. The company did not even honor the introductory rate advertised on their website, relying solely on zip codes for setting CD rates.

Frustrating Mortgage Closure Experience

I recently closed a mortgage and encountered numerous issues, including incorrect routing numbers on the paperwork. They required automatic withdrawals to have a different routing number that was never explained. They even made duplicate withdrawals for the same payment. The lack of knowledge and professionalism was shocking.
