The worst customer service in the NBG in Varkiza . There is one cashier and obviously she hates her job. A small bit of patience for Greeks and for foreigners who are working and paying taxes in GreeceI feel sorry for anyone who is not great with technology .
Debit Card ActivationThe worst Customer Service ever, should be named the Customer Irritation Department.I have never, ever, seen such an unorganized bank, shop, or any other institution. We had two debit cards that needed to activated and went to the bank to see a customer service representative. We were told we would have to have an appointment, the time and date would be sent to us via email. First appointment: We arrived at the prescribed time, only to have to sit and wait about three hours to see the representative. Once with her we were there for another three hours. The representative was nice to us (did bring us a bottle of water), but the other bank employees kept bringing work to her and she would stop our business and work on their paperwork for long periods of time. There were many of these interruptions with no apologies. At the end of the day we were told that she had only completed the paperwork for my wife and we would have to make ANOTHER appointment the next week to get the paperwork for my card. UNBELIEVABLE!Second appointment: Okay, we made a very early appointment thinking we might get in on time. We got up very early to drive to the bank on time only to be told by the representative, “Sorry, we have several people on sick leave today, you will have to make another appointment.” I was ready to pull my hair out at this time!!!!!!!!!!!Third appointment. We had made another early appointment and did get in to see the representative with only a slight delay. This time it ONLY took two hours to get my card activated. I would NEVER recommend anyone to open an account with this bank. I really feel sorry for the people that have to work there. Most of the employees were nice; it is the management and administration that is incompetent.
The worst customer service I have ever experienced. After a hacker got in my computer and accessed my bank account I had to wait on hold for 20 minutes to after multiple attempts with the call bot to connect me with a real person. They froze my card and couldn’t issue a temporary digital card. I had to wait 20 days for the new card to arrive and then make an appointment in an understaffed Bank with during business hours that I was working. The people working there were very rude and not helpful. The only person willing to help was a practitioner. We know Greece is behind the Sun but someone would expect at least minimal service from an organisation big enough. And you are wondering why people go to Revolution and companies like that. P.S. Just hire someone capable enough to fix your damn app it’s a disgrace!
As a person who moved abroad, they refuse to help me on the phone and make me write to the contact form, which after 14 days sends an automated message that a reply will come in 15 days. For one clarification about documents to wait 30 days is the worst treatment a customer who is not able to travel to greece on a whim can get.
BE CAREFUL- DO NOT USE THIS BANK - WE FELL VICTIMS OF FRAUD VIA WEB BANKING- THE BANK HAS DONE NOTHING TO HELP US - EVEN THOUGH SOME OF OUR MONEY WENT TO STRANGERS TO BANK ACCOUNTS WITHIN THE SAME BANK. 60,000 EURO GONE !!! STILL FOR THE BANK TO RESPOND! NO PROTECTION! BE CAREFUL!
I am not convinced the customer service is of decent quality. It is my perception, the bank is also part of the "system" and more or less, treating the customer as second tier. The employees, in general, seem indifferent and not responsive to customer issues. Maybe, a little better than the other Greek banks - Alpha and Piraeus. For another example, NBG as well, did not fully transfer, the customer with the interest rate increases from EU Central Bank, such as those occurring in the EU in 2022-2024. Thus, the bank could make higher profits from potential investments due to the relevant interest rate increases from ECB, but not the customer. In addition, the credit ratings from major credit rating firms, have rated NBG below investment grade but a level or two higher than the other Greek Banks - Alpha and Piraeus Bank, also attest to this indecent current situation, in some extent, I think. UPDATE 1st Feb. 2025: Very recently Standard and Poor's (S&P), one major credit rating agency, has upgraded the rating of NBG, and another Greek Bank - Eurobank, to BBB- meaning those two Greek banks, barley, now being considered, by them, investment grade. Similarly, goes with Fitch...
Forget ever experiencing or taking part in any type of banking service there is to offer if you are a non EU passport holder, the only thing possible receive salary and use for payments, fees they do shamelessly take for whatever excrement service they phantomly offer which is just having a card
Called the NBG for help with a standing order with DEA. They did not help at all. In fact the “customer service representative” was most anxious to get off the line. I was told that because there had been insufficient funds in the account when DEH attempted to take out money, the standing order was now null and void. Went to my branch (an hour’s drive away each way) and they said that “no the standing order was not null and void.” Frustrating experience, and not the first time.
Worst bank I've ever had business with. Most of employees can't speak English even though most of the people in Greece do speak. They are ignorant and seems like no one knows what they do. Customer support tells one thing and when you come to bank they say different - irrational things. Every time I come to this bank, I have problems because they can't solve it on one visit. Can't do the simple tasks that any European bank would easily accomplish in a minute. For example, I got my card blocked because I tried to make a transaction which system suspected a fraud. I tried to unblock it but it was no such option in digital banking. Who in the first place decides to block my card without my request / permission?! After contacting many times customer support, they could not help and provided just some phone number. Tried to call this (ancient land line) number but it's always busy line even after half an hour waiting. Finally I came to physical bank and they told me the same - to call that darn number to unblock my card. I tried to explain that I called 100 times and it was no answer. The bank employees seemed that they don't want to bother because they didn't know what to to. Finally I was so frustrated so I went to other branch and started to shout immediately claiming that I wont go until it is solved here and now. All employees immediately gathered, consulted each other and asked to wait until they make a call. After 20 mins waiting they reached the same number that they gave me and asked me to talk to them. My card was finally unblocked after 3 week struggle. It's like a 100 years ago system. The only way to solve issues with this bank is to make drama and shout on them!!!
