Galápagos - a true dream. An epic trip of a lifetime (ultramarathon included) expertly crafted by Rat Race. Couldn’t have asked for a better few days. Packed so much adventure and nature into one epic experience. Loved the crew, loved the team, love the memories. Cannot recommend this event enough. Thank you all and see you for Madagascar 2026!
The Galapagos Ultramarathon is an experience that stays with you. Each morning begins with sea lions resting beside you, and every day brings moments of wonder. Snorkeling with turtles, watching sea lions play, and walking through the peaceful habitat of giant tortoises. A boat trip offers its own magic, witnessing dolphins dance across the water and even glimpsing an orca in the wild.The course leads you past El Junco’s serene freshwater crater lake, down to the beach, and back up toward the finish. That final climb is emotional, a powerful reminder that every step forward reveals just how much you’re capable of. Anything is possible.
I’ve just completed the Mount Etna test pilot and what a fab experience, I’ve done a few Rat Races before but never a test pilot. It still has the same Rat Race spirit organisation and support but with an element of adventure because no one is quite sure if it’s all going to work! It did, the scenery was stunning, the route challenging but fun, we came across locked gates, overgrown paths and even a car crash but our fantastic little team worked together and with an awesome effort by everyone we made it to the top of Mount Etna. Collette, Patrick and James did a brilliant job as Rat Races crew acting as navigators, drivers, photographers making sure we were fed and watered and providing the best support when the going got tough. I really can’t recommend Rat Race Adventure enough, the sense of achievement and the friendships you make will last a lifetime time.

Mount Etna Sea to Summit Test Pilot Tripwas a really well organised affair attended by rat race crew Collette, Patrick & James The event had everything - beach start in the dark of night ( at a balmy 17degrees Celsius) running through quiet village streets, rural areas ,up through lovely woods with an unforgettable sunrise .We then popped out of the woods/forest and a fantastic vista came into view - the majesty of Mount Etna and its barren slopes .Having re-grouped at the ski centre , we walked up to altitude and had very experienced guides take us to the summit ( having checked that we were “well togged up” & handed us safety helmets) It was a great day and the whole group ( who had bonded brilliantly over the weekend ) finished the day with a very nice celebratory meal at a fine local restaurant and a couple of drinks afterwards back at the lovely hotel the whole group had stayed at .A great thanks to Collette, Patrick, James and the fellow rat race test pilots for a fabulous weekend and the fantastic memories I have from it.If this does become an event in 2026 or 2027, just make sure you have a quick trigger finger on the entry button as this event would be sold out very quickly.
Wow what an epic adventure! 25 miles in one day with a constant elevation gain but then it was to be expected to reach Mount Etna's crater. We set off at 2AM and were free to make progress at our own pace before all meeting up for steady hike with our guide. Had a great group of adventure seekers and enjoyed motivating each other. Event was well organised and cannot fault the Rat Race staff (Collette, Patrick and James), they did everything they could to support us reaching our goal (including rerouting for minor obstacles like locked gates). Thankfully they also got to come with us for the final stretch up to the crater. I've done loads of Rat Race events in UK and abroad and always come back for more as I know they will support/encourage and, if needed, give you a gentle push to ensure you complete the event. Highly recommend the company if you are planning an adventure. I will be back for the Mount Etna event if it gets added to Rat Race's repertoire.
I’ve been fortunate to attend a few test pilot events with Rat Race, and the recent Sea to Summit Mount Etna rates as one of the best experiences to date. Starting in classic Italian countryside we set off very early in the morning to cope with later temperatures and headed upwards, through villages, scrappy paths and forests. The sun was chasing us all morning as we tested the route via a few dead ends, seeking to perfect the line from sea to summit. The sun arrived as we emerged from the tree line to greet Etna in the morning light, spewing smoke from its top crater into blue skies. We had a couple of snack stops, a GPX file to follow and excellent support via Collette, Patrick and James. Gathering at the village prior to the final ascent, safety clothing was provided and we felt assured, despite the wind attempting to throw us around. Out Italian guide was also superb providing running commentary and assisted us all to reach the top. What a great climb and finish to the day. We had a bouncy truck to return us to the village before we returned to our villa to wash, refresh, drink, eat and celebrate a great weekend.
The Maltese Falcon was a very challenging and worthwhile event. I thoroughly enjoyed the kayak portion and several locations throughout the course were picture postcard quality. Genuine thanks to Rob, Kirsten, Fi, and Seboliver for providing top notch support during the entire stay.
