I was teetering on the verge of a midlife crisis, but my decision to improve my living space and the interiors of my mind led me to a sparkling sphere: Ruby Lane. Indeed, my browsing and buying experiences on Ruby Lane in the wee hours of the morning have been the brightest moments of my past year.While intuition led me to perform specific searches that improved my collections -- antique dolls, vintage Barbie dolls, fine art, antique and vintage furniture, vintage décor and vintage-Modern jewelry -- it is my overall experience within the mega gem that is Ruby Lane which has reawakened my joy of living.Experienced, engaging and thoughtful sellers on Ruby Lane have given me quite an education on vintage and antique articles -- an education that I carry with me on travels but also on ordinary strolls. With regard to the latter, just several months ago while taking a new route in the neighborhood of my workplace, on my lunch hour, I slowed my pace upon approaching a shop window. There, in the center of an arrangement of vintage furniture were a pair of wooden-framed, parlor-style accent chairs that drew my eye. If I had not been virtually turning illuminating pages here on Ruby Lane, I highly doubt that I would have noticed those chairs. Several days ago I returned to the shop but instead of only gazing through its window, I crossed the threshold to inquire about the chair pair. However, the shop's owner knew nothing of their history and was quite busy. I made a promise to return the next day. That evening, I turned to Ruby Lane to search for similar chairs. ... I made good on my promise and arrived at the shop after work the following day. Before leaving with my purchase, I told the shop's owner that I would photograph the chairs and begin a search for identification. He apologized about not knowing their history but offered to place a call to their previous owner (as it turned out, he was selling the chairs on consignment). Within minutes, he was passing his phone to me and my ears were tingling with a vivid description of the *antique* French chairs designed in 1920s Paris as copies of post-French Revolution chairs. One of them carried a metal label [on the underside of the seat] indicating the Paris shop from which the previous owner purchased the pair.The point of this narrative is that, without my experience of browsing and buying treasures great and small on Ruby Lane, I never would have landed inadvertently on the path to the shop selling antique and vintage furniture. Similarly, I never would have stumbled upon a pair of rare, MCM 14kt gold embedded ceramic tiles by underrated sculptor and mosaics artist Jean Nison. I purchased those tiles here on Ruby Lane yesterday.I eagerly look forward to more and more special purchases, and memorable buyer-seller exchanges here on Ruby Lane.
