Review Time
It made it very easy to get the help I needed. The website is very easy to navigate and the reminders and self help check in helps your therapist focus on your needs.
I noticed my bill after a recent session was considerably higher. I contacted customer support and was told I was charged for an “add-on” service. At no point during my session was I given the opportunity to accept or decline this additional service. Also I was not given any prior notice that the questions I was being asked were going to result in an additional fee that was not covered by my insurance. Since this is a mental health company most patients are primarily seeking support so it is predatory to “upsell” without any notice for basic services when patients are already vulnerable. The company should not be able to charge patients for additional out of pocket services that occur within my regular sessions without my consent.
I have never in my life experienced this with a company. I tried therapy for the first time in over 11 years and landed with Rula. Started out great, found a WONDERFUL therapist who has been the only person worth even discovering this website. But then we get to the part where it's time to pay for my session. GLADLY. But...where did my money go? Not sure because Rula can't seem to tell me either!!!
I have been going back and forth with the billing team for a month now trying to get this issue resolved and they weren't able to help me at all. They have harassed me with texts and emails saying I have an outstanding balance, but the $35 had already been taken out of my account the day after our session? I sent documentation proving that I was charged and every single time I got an email from someone was just REPEATING that I had a balance, like I know??? I've only been harassed about it for a month now!!! And there shouldn't even be a balance in the first place! All of this back and forth for a month just for them to tell me that the issue cannot be resolved because they didn't get my money on their end, even though my bank verified it was taken out of my account. I put my card into THEIR website, so where is my money at?
Fast forward to a couple of days ago I ask for a one time payment method to pay for the other visit I had just had after my first one that they were still trying to bill me for and state that I was only paying for my MOST RECENT VISIT and I pay the $35 for it. They try and hit me with "you're most recent payment is for the outstanding balance you had from the previous visit. You still owe $35 for your recent one." Like no??? That's not what I paid for at all!!! And I made that very clear in email 3 TIMES. I will never recommend Rula Services to anyone. My therapist however? AMAZING. Only reason they're getting the one star.
Therapists are caring, insightful and very helpful. I like not having to drive in traffic and just speak to someone in the comfort of my own home. I am not limited to local providers. There was ample information on each therapist to help me select my therapist.
I can honestly say that Rula is one of the most user-friendly platforms I’ve experienced for getting mental health care. Their team helped me figure out insurance and referrals and was super responsive. It’s easy to choose and schedule with a therapist, and make changes to appointments and even change providers or add additional types of therapy (family, couples, etc). Their patient portal is easy to use and makes it easy to communicate with my provider. I have recommended Rula to my family and friends!
In 2024 my insurance changed automatically as yearly coverage rolled over. In 2025 this did not occur, and I was charged 10x the standard rate without any visible notice on site.
This notice DID exist and became visible only when I attempted to sign with a new service (psychiatry). The company was aware my insurance status updated, did not implement this automatically, had the ability to inform me before making further appointments, and chose to instead charge me a much higher rate out of pocket without explicit notice on the service.
To say nothing of the intimidating labyrinth of help pages to getting to a human support. I cannot recommend a company that is ready to charge 10x on the drop of a dime and abandon better practices so easily.
Actual providers and ease of getting to them is great. But don't screw the consumer over it.
My therapist through Rula has been incredibly thoughtful, grounded, and supportive. She creates a safe, nonjudgmental space where I feel truly heard and understood. Her insight, professionalism, and ability to ask the right questions have been invaluable to my personal growth and clarity. I’m deeply grateful for the care and consistency she brings to each session. Highly recommend.
The support we receive is outstanding! The online access to sessions greatly simplifies management. The flexibility to adjust when issues arise is incredibly helpful. My 6-year-old can participate in sessions online, and when he strays off track, the provider skillfully introduces different activities or wraps up the session if necessary. We are very pleased with the service we have received.
I arranged therapy services through the platform and was assigned a provider for an initial intake appointment. Unfortunately, the provider failed to join the scheduled session. The appointment was rescheduled, but again the provider did not attend the second session. After waiting and reaching out to customer support, I ultimately decided to cancel all appointments and not continue with the service. Although customer support was responsive, the repeated missed sessions made it hard to rely on the platform for timely care. I hope the company can enhance provider accountability and communication, particularly for new patients in need of consistent mental health support.
This service behaves as if it owns the therapists, often misclassifying independent contractors in marketing as employees while employing controlling and retaliatory tactics similar to intermittent punishments. It operates with a mob-like mentality. Despite not offering any benefits to therapists, it maintains excessive control over their public images, altering profiles and photos without consent. The platform has a history of unethical, retaliatory practices in its pursuit of high profit margins from independent contractor therapists. It has no place in the mental health industry at all. I would rate it zero stars if that were an option.
