I call relatively frequently, and they have never failed to answer within ten minutes. I can understand why this might be an issue but once you realise this is a volunteer service, it puts the whole thing in perspective.
The low reviews (as i just said) are understandable, as a person "standing on the edge of a bridge" doesn't have the time to call and then talk to someone who is supposed to just listen.
But that's the thing, the samaritans are just supposed to listen and talk through your problems with you. Ultimately its up to you what decision you make. That is not the point of the service. If you feel at risk of great harm or suicide, this is not who you should call. Get to an emergeny department equipped to deal with your situation.
These generous people talk to you, try to listen to you (and again, if you feel as though you cant talk through your issues, get to an a&e), and are there when you just need to calm down, all pn volunteer time.
I recall being on the phone and having them describe that i did not need to be on the verge of anything in order to call. At the time i described my calling as selfish and a waste of time but they put into perspective how the call was exactly what they were designed for.
They are the step before more serious action.
Overall, they are a kind group of people who are there to listen to you. If that isn't what you need then only call this number if it is one of your few options. They rarely are able to talk you away from a ledge but they are understanding and will listen. My only gripe is that they are hesitant to give you a name for them (even a pseudonym), which can make it feel quite impersonal.
Call this number if you are struggling. But get to an emergency department if you are in danger.
Absolute utter useless there are way better support out there. The caller sounded like they were depressed themselves and don't explain anything while others actually do. They just there to temporarily comfort you.
Extremely disappointing interaction. The representative on the phone was completely unhelpful. Their attitude was condescending and demeaning. Perhaps if they spent time in underserved communities, they might gain some perspective. I regret not heeding the warnings from other reviews and the issues surrounding this service.

It felt like they were more interested in their own agenda rather than genuinely listening. I was ultimately blocked for supposedly sharing inappropriate content, which was simply my personal experience. This service claims to be impartial, yet they seem to block people without valid reasons, demonstrating a troubling level of self-importance. Overall, it seems they prioritize call volume over meaningful support.
