On arrival at 1st Class lounge at Waverley Station, the staff (one person) was not very friendly. An unexpected limited choice of drinks and food: small packets of biscuits; bottled water and tea/coffee. We arrived here an hour in advance of boarding the train as the advertised description of the lounge experience was very different.
The train did leave bang on time! During the journeyy, the noise and very jolty movements of the train (through the night) meant our sleep was very broken.
Unfortunately the cooked breakfast was almost inedible. My husband chose the meat cooked breakfast and I chose the vegetarian. I chose fresh orange juice which had a fizzy quality to it which usually suggests it’s started fermenting! Both meals were lukewarm warm. On my plate, the 2 mock rashers of bacon were cold, almost burnt (as was the one sausage) and very hard. The teaspoon-portion of spicy beans was mushy and cold. The scone was so hard and dry. I asked a member of staff serving us about the scone and they said it was not designed to be toasted but fried; toasting was the only means they have to heat it. We would suggest not offering this food if there are not the facilities to cook it properly…
The only real positive about the journey was that the staff on the train were very friendly.
Loved it...an amazing experience. Thought I would feal uncomfortable sat up sleeping, but, it was very comfy indeed. Will be our no 1 choice of travelling next time we go to London.
Staff where very friendly.
Very comfortable and clean, I slept very well. I especially appreciated the coffee and breakfast delivered to the cabin, and the complimentary water, snacks and toiletries. The staff were also very kind and helpful. I didn't know a sleeper could be so comfortable!
What was supposed to be an exceptional experience has become quite a nightmare. We are currently on the train, traveling from one city to another. We booked a private cabin to have access to a toilet and shower, which required an additional payment. This morning, when I tried to use the toilet, the flush was not operational. When I asked a crew member, they informed us that the water supply was out. We cannot shower or use the toilet! Now, we are stuck in a cabin with a toilet that cannot be flushed and no option for a shower. It's perplexing why such expensive accommodations are offered without ensuring basic amenities like water. £500 is a significant amount. The crew suggested we use the shared toilet, which feels unfair. If you pay for a service, you should receive what you are entitled to. There is a reason people opt for these private options.
Pleasant visit - appreciated the invitation to the lounge on platform 1 - received a warm welcome at reception and was grateful for the adjustment to the background music - much better than waiting by the platform gate. A good selection of refreshments available for purchase, along with complimentary hot and cold drinks and sweet treats. It would be great to see some savory snack options like peanuts, olives, celery sticks, or crisps. Also enjoyed the option for breakfast in the cabin or buffet car; unfortunately, I mismanaged my time and arrived just in time for the arrival in Inverness. Looking forward to next time!
The rooms are cozy and well-appointed. Suggestions for improvement include: 1. A cover for the washbasin to enhance surface space in the cabin. 2. A wall map indicating the location of the club cabin, as two guests asked me for directions.
The train was punctual, and the bed was clean and comfy. While the staff were efficient, they lacked warmth and helpfulness. The menu for the cabin was limited and not as advertised. There was no dining car available in the morning, and the toilet flush was malfunctioning.
From the lounge to the room, the dining options, and the service from the hosts, this was a delightful experience. I had a great night's sleep in a solo cabin, with excellent food and drink selections. It felt like home, complete with a warm shower and good coffee in the morning.
