2025 Virginia tax law allows $40k subtraction of military benefits. TaxAct only allows 30K. It won't file your taxes if you input 40K.
Military filers in the state of Virginia are overstating their income by 10k, and overpaying their taxes, simply by using TaxAct.
I used Tax Act for the first time today in hopes of accessing their tax advance. It has led to a very time consuming experience,so I'm leaving this review to maybe help the next person. It was very easy to file my taxes on their website. I was never given the option for tax advance, even tho I met all criteria. I called customer service, waited about 45 min an spoke w a lady that told me I had to call Republic Bank to set up a account an then I'd see the option. Absolutely not true! So I called back to Tax Act. The next lady said the tax advance was just offered today for the first time."It's a hit an miss so maybe call back at the end of the week."If that helps anyone, there ya go!

Have Been Using TaxAct for several years. Used TaxAct 2025 paid services instead of the IRS Free Service, which I qualify for. I wanted to be loyal to TaxAct. Thought the IRS was going to accept early(January 09th) like last year but because I used "PAID" TaxAct IRS won't "ACCEPT" until January 26th. This is punishment for being loyal to TaxAct. Ignore the "Discount Ads" they send in November & December because they change the rules and don't tell you. I will not use TaxAct next year.
I was a satisfied customer for 12 years but I needed a copy of my 2024 tax return because I lost the one I printed earlier in December 2025, their software could not do. So I waited till January 2 to try again hoping the software was fixed but it was even worse. Nothing worked. Their use of AI and bot help was useless and finally when I found no live support I quit.
I used TaxAct to file some 2024 1065s. I downloaded the receipt they gave me. Recently I was doing my taxes for the year and looked at the receipt. It shows that I paid "$0.00" but the credit card statement shows I paid $149.99I went to TaxAct website and followed their link to contact support . I simply asked for a receipt for my purchase.6 days and TEN emails later, and this company literally refuses to give me a receipt.I am pretty sure this is illegal.
Horrible, worst experience-DO NOT USE - (4) Taxact "reps" gave me incorrect information regarding both Taxact Efile Submission Date/Time, and most importantly (3 separate reps and phone calls) gave me COMPLETELY WRONG info on the 2025 IRS (MeF) shutdown date/time (I tried to correct them as I viewed the MeF status live on IRS.gov website) - and ended up the (4) was WRONG on their own (Taxact) shutdown. We used to use Taxact but large price increases that do not offer value - and now the worst, most uninformed, I have ever experienced - SAD! We will continue to use other services, and stay away from major poor customer experiences
We got a notice in the mail from New York State with back taxes due and a penalty attached after using Taxact for years. Taxact says it was “user error” and wriggled out of their guarantee. But the whole point of these programs is is that they are supposed to walk you through the process and give you solid guidelines for filling out the forms. Don’t expect that from Taxact, it’s confusing and there are no guard rails whatsoever.
This past year, service has been very bad. I have been using these guys for years, but I don't know if I will in the future. I paid extra to schedule a customer service call, and no one called me. Then, I rebooked and spoke to a representative who said that she couldn't help. Now, they're calling me back and making me wait on hold! I don't understand. What company calls a customer back and then puts them on hold? Very confusing and not a great business model
