As thorough as it gets

I had a very pleasant experience with tellmegen! Not only were their instructions clear as day (my biggest fear was messing up getting my DNA to them) my DNA kit was received lightening fast by them. The results took a couple weeks, but I was sent an email about their completion. After logging in into my personal and secure account, I was able to pull up my results right away. They are VERY thorough, detailed and spot on from what I know from my personal family history. It was very interesting to learn about myself, which will help me be healthier in the future as I know what I am more prone to.

Their results were concerningly inaccurate

I purchased a full DNA report from this company. On the hereditary conditions, they stated I had a genetic disease which has an incredibly high rate of developing cancer at a young age. What makes this suspicious is they found a very large number of SNPs for this disease. I could not be alive and have this many pathogenic variants. Among these included duplicates in all of the specific genes. This means the same change occurs in my DNA two times, with many of them being the exact same variant, from both of my parents at the same time, which is statistically impossible. My resulting report is deeply inaccurate and raises serious concerns about the credibility of their genetic analysis methods. Not to mention telling someone they have a very, very serious and scary health issue. When I attempted to contact them, they blamed me for falsifying the results! I wouldn't even know how to do this, let alone why would I ?Run far away from this company.

Think about alternatives

I bought a Family kit from Tellgen through Amazon (who do the fulfilment on this product so part of the blame lies with them). The Family kit contains three test kits which come in a single box with three 'slots', one for a lightweight plastic blister pack containing a single test kit.The instructions provided are incredibly simplistic and **importantly** are wrong in a numebr of places and misleading overall. Three different adults tried, independently, to make sense of it all. All three failed. The first issue is that the instructions refer to a blue 'tray' in the box. There isn't one, but we are all agreed that they must have changed the design but not the instructions (sigh). The instructions then talk about printing a label and putting it under that blue tray. But this is the return post label for the courier, so how can this be seen from outside the return envelope bag? It just doesnt make any sense at all.The instructions both in the kit and online make zero allowance for using a three-person test kit, so you are never sure of you are doing it right. (And at £349 you have a lot to lose if you do it wrong). To make matters worse, the return bag is clearly the wrong size and is way too small for the three kit box (you return the tests in the same box they came in and this is important because the individual plastic blister packaging are too fragile to survive in the post, even in an envelope). So the return envelope is far too small. You can't even get the corner of the box into the envelop. More sighs. There is no phone number to contact TellGen and it is clear on the Amazon website that any reviews mentioning the packaging gets crossed out by Amazon themselves (as they do the fulfilment). While Amazon customer support is actually quite good, they were also struggling to see how to resolve this.In the end, I will be using my own envelope big enough for the box and I may have to pay for my own postage (sigh) because the post label is only up to 300g and I'm fairly sure it will be over that.TellmeGen responded to a form email from their website but the information was again incorrect. As another example of the utter shamble of this company, the instructions say you will be using DHL for the return, the first customer support email said it was UPS, but what has been emailed is a Royal Mail post label. You really can't make this up. The absolutely zero customer service is quite rare these days and you sense that they must have actually worked quite hard to get it this bad. It really is hard to be this poor by accident. We will see what happens with the service from here on, but are considering just getting our money back. It's that bad. There are numerous alternatives available and I would advise having a think about those alternatives before splashing out hundreds of pounds with these clowns. What perhaps makes this so much worse is the tone of their emails, with one saying that they have never had this (wrong size return bag) before. I'm sending the bag back to them with the kits to show that regardless of itnever having happened before....here you are...... shrugs

Very happy with the service

Very happy with the service. Results came earlier than expected. Small comments on ancestry, but still very good for the price

Prejudiced towards anyone with any…

Prejudiced company against anyone with any Jewish genes! Spanish company suggests Jews are all very similar genetically due to inbreeding. I uploaded my DNA to another website and got much more accurate and non-prejudiced results.

scam

I think its not so useful. It doesnt even calculate the epigenetic age, the report is only a copy paste from the main website where it shows a "probability" which is kinda scam because I asked if the epigenetic was actually measured, and they replied it was measured. I asked how is this "probability"even calculated, they just sent me a QaA article that has no clarification on how they calculate it. It doesnt say what the sample size is, what exactly are they taking into account, whats your actual position in the pool of samples is. Its a copy paste of "high, medium and low"probability, what is high? high with respect to what? imo its complete scam

Totally scammed me

Totally scammed me. They show that you get percentage numbers and all i got was "high risk" "medium risk" and "low risk", but I don't even know who that is compared with. I tried emailing them only for them to tell me that they gave me what I ordered, which is a lie, it was advertised as percentages so thats what I bought it for. Don't trust this company one bit. They are also no help when you message them, you send them screenshots and they will say its not from their website even though you legit talked them through how to find it on their OWN website. It honeslty seems like a big scam to me, avoid at all costs.
