Stayed in Richmond last weekend for my Birthday and wanted it to be special as recovering from cancer so booked the Ivy as I frequent the Manchester one regularly. Incredibly disappointed and didn’t feel at all special. really poor service and attention to detail. Took almost 30mins for the drinks to arrive. The food was dreadful and undercooked 😬 will not be returning to the Ivy in Richmond I am however back in the Manchester one tomorrow.
We just popped in to see if we could get a table for 2 for a quick lunch. Terribly rude and condescending Female at the door, who abruptly said that there were no tables available. I asked if we could sit by the bar, she took one look at my teenage daughter and snared down her nose and said we could not sit at the bar. We are frequent diners at our local Chelsea Garden restaurant and are always greeted with upmost warmth by welcoming staff. I was utterly appalled at how my daughter and I were treated today.
Earlier this week we (3 young ladies) booked the Ivy for High Tea. We asked if we could have a small circular table as they allow space for the 3 tier cake stands.Booking was confirmed for 3pm (Sunday) and we were told that if we were not here by 3.15pm the table would be given away.We arrived 2.55pm. Table not ready.3.10pm table still not ready - so told to wait by the bar.3.30pm eventually we get some bar service.3.45pm told our table is ready. It’s 2 small tables put together - offering no room for 3 cake stands. So we asked if we could have the table we booked. After much discussion, they agreed.4.05pm a table comes free. So we sit at the table.4.15pm we finally get a waitress to take our order!By the time we eventually got our drinks (soon followed by food) it was 4.40pm. Meaning we had to wait 1hr 40mins. We did complain and got our 1 drink from the bar for free (wished I had ordered champers!). Overall very disappointed as they agreed the table reservation, but struggled to honour it.
Booked as a special birthday treat. Waited ages to be offered a drink and then a further 1 hour 15 minutes before we had a starter. Food was lovely when it arrived but by that point, it had lost the special touch I was hoping for. Will not be returning again. Not worth the £160 bill for two people after that experience. Was compensated with a free coffee! It was meant to be something special. But So disappointing.
I am a complete fan of The Ivy, i am often in my local one in Cobham, which i love and still feel is one of the best. Basically i have never had a bad experience at an Ivy restaurant until Friday 19th January. My brother was recently over visiting from Marbella so me and my family went to the The Ivy Richmond Sunday 14th January and had a great all in all experience. I also met old friends On Thursday 18th January in The Ivy St Johns wood and all in all had a great night ( like i said I'm a fan) but when i arrived at The ivy Richmond on Friday, whist parking the car my friend who arrived before me was ushered upstairs to an empty room opposite the toilet, to be seated! The lady on the door said that was the only tables left as downstairs was full up! Now, to my mind, that should be for the over flow ( the walk in's) not for people who have booked two weeks before. So when i arrived i said we do not want to sit upstairs on our own, and was told to have a drink at the bar, until a two seated table became available. We were at the bar up to 45 minutes and i had to go up to reception and just say you haven't forgotten about us have you? When eventually they found us a table i noticed there was two great empty tables for two opposite the bar, but no they put us in the worse table in the room and i was facing a window at the front right had side of the restaurant, which wouldn't have been so bad if my friend was my lover and all i wanted was to see was her face, but no we were two stylish single women who wanted to go to a lovely restaurant and take in the ambience all around us. I for now will never visit The ivy Richmond again if i can help it, as we we're made to feel unimportant and invisible, even the table service was completely lapsed and not its usual standards.
Pre-booked a table which wasn’t ready. No problem with that, although was advised to have a drink at the bar. The staff member asked we move to the opposite end of the bar to avoid congestion which we did, no offer of a drink. I was then asked to move 3 times by staff as I was clearly in the way. Moved back to the original space and asked to move repeatedly. Now feeling like obsolete furniture with no sign of a table being ready and three staff members huddled over a computer station resolving nothing, was time to leave. Very disappointing.
