This used to be a legit way to find contractors & companies. But that's changed. The last two times I submitted job specs for potential contractors, I ended up getting spammed with fake claims of promised work and money owed. Even got text messages that demanded my credit card info to pay for a "lead." Another service bites the dust.

I’ve given Thumbtack more than a year, and I can confidently say it’s been a complete waste. I’ve barely gotten one real lead—never made a dime. About 90% of what I see is just ghost leads or fake accounts draining money. Even worse, you sign up for HVAC services, and they send you nonsense like a stove hood replacement. It’s a total scam, burning cash with no return.

Thumbact is a hit or miss, I get charged for fake leads, they don't verify the Customers phone numbers and getting a refund is very hard to do. They can drain your account in a day and distribute Leads to everyone. I got a Direct Lead and while responding, got the same project on the Opportunities Page. Its become another Angie's List!! They don't advertise enough to get more projects,

I am furious and will never open this site again. I am trying to pick up a drumming hobby and a few minutes after I sent a respectful message to one of the pros there, my account was deactivated and I have to wait days for them to even look at my appeal. This site is stupid.

They closed my account over a petty incident that was tooking care of i think it was personal they were racially profiling me thumbtack is ran by racist foreigners if you are a black owned business be real careful using thumbtack they are the worst platform to use Nextdoor and Angi’s and Google Buisinsess is better thumbtack you will be competing with so many other pros I suggest all pros to boycott this platform this platform will clash eventually

Unprofessional Experience with a Handyman

I had a disappointing experience with a handyman who initially advertised a rate of $50 per hour to attract customers. However, he quickly changed the rate to $80 per hour, claiming the need for an extra person, even for simple tasks like installing a toilet paper holder. He then stated that he actually charges a flat fee per job, which was significantly higher than his advertised rates. For instance, he estimated a job at 4-6 hours would cost $1,000. When I questioned this pricing, he made inappropriate comments and suggested I find someone else willing to work for much less. The conversation deteriorated into disrespectful language. I have generally had positive experiences with the platform and wanted to highlight this issue to ensure that this type of vendor aligns with the platform's standards.

Terrible platform experience.

This platform is awful. It charges without confirming if you have an existing booking or if the category is wrong. You can't remove any photos uploaded by clients (even nonsensical ones) that obstruct your own professional videos and images—even if the client has passed away! It used to be a fantastic place years ago, but now it's not worth your money.

The platform charges service providers for every lead, even when customers contact multiple professionals simultaneously and hire none. This creates an unjust environment where legitimate experts lose money while unregulated individuals can undercut prices. Additionally, there is no protection against false or damaging reviews, even in cases where no work was done. The service needs to be more transparent: ✔ One lead = one provider
✔ Refunds for unresponsive customers
✔ Moderation of reviews when they are misleading Until these changes are implemented, professionals like myself are left paying without a fair opportunity to succeed.

Disappointing Experience

My experience was quite disappointing; my account was deactivated for a while, but I decided to give it another shot. The first lead I received was just someone inquiring about prices for a friend, and I was charged $180 for that. This person never replied to my message, and my request for a refund was denied. It feels like a money grab—charging $180 for a lead that wasn't even a serious customer is outrageous. The service has clearly declined over the years.
