First leg of trip got cancelled and pushed to a time and date that would have me leaving AFTER my return flight would have been landing. Not to mention I would miss the business meeting that was the sole purpose of the trip. So I cancelled and filed a claim. The nearly impenetrable labyrinth I had to go through to finally get a person on the phone to walk me through how to file was a complete waste of time. Never heard anything back. Portal had no info. Had to waste another hour back in the labyrinth to unearth claim status, which had been denied. Waste of money. I feel completely ripped off.
⭐ 1 Star – Misleading Advertising and Claim Denial
I strongly caution anyone considering Travel Guard.
I was told at the time of purchase that my trip would be covered for cancellation due to illness. There was no clear explanation that coverage required an in-person physician visit and formal certification at the time of loss.
When I canceled my hotel due to illness, I filed a claim in good faith. Instead of honoring the coverage I was promised, Travel Guard denied my claim based on a technicality — stating that I did not seek treatment from a physician.
This feels deceptive. Marketing suggests broad protection, but when you actually need help, they rely on fine print to avoid paying.
Insurance should provide peace of mind — not loopholes.
Extremely disappointing experience. I will not purchase from Travel Guard again and would not recommend them to others.
Have a cruise planned 10 months away from now. The cruise lines price for insurance was almost $2,000 more than going direct with (same company) Travel Guard. I liked how they gave different levels of protection and side by side comparison on price & coverages to make my choices
I used Travel Guard for my trip to Thailand. I purchased the insurance simultaneously with my plane ticket. What a mistake on my part!!! I totally forgot that I had purchased them and here's why. Few days before the trip, I had forgotten that I already had AIG Travel guard insurance, so I ended up purchasing one of their competitors and I'm so glad that I did. After reaching overseas and eating some street food that my stomach wasn't accustomed to, I ended up getting food poisoning because the symptoms included diarrhea; vomiting and fever. I set up an appointment with Bumrungrad hospital in Bangkok (and their stellar care), since it was my first time there, the hospital ran a thorough check up. When I received the bill I was counting on AIG travel guard to help me out and this claim was denied. 1) I tried to upload all my documents and evidences but was only allowed 5 thus I had to pick the best of the 10 plus docs I had. 2) After a few weeks, I got a response stating that I was denied hmm because "expenses incurred were for a general medical examination" Are you kidding me??? ... why on earth would I go to a hospital if the Medical team didn't think I need a full check up? Specially because they don't have my health history. So after I was denied, thankfully I reached out to the other insurance company that I had also signed up for, and they came through with flying colors. They wanted every documentation, I could provide. I gladly gave them all I had. They did Also ask me about Travel Guard and I told them what had happened and provided a copy of the denial email that I received. Let's just say, I was thankful that I had a back up insurance that treated me like a human being and not like these AIG 'denial demons'. Stay away from this Insurance company .. not worth it.
Our flight was scheduled when a major storm hit. Our rescheduled flights were repeatedly cancelled and each time we called to modify the schedule. We spent hours on the phone. Ultimately a flight was delayed and then canceled late at night and we called the next morning to modify and were told that because it was past the date of the last modified schedule, the plan had lapsed. What a scam!
I recently booked a flight with a certain airline and opted for their insurance, believing it would cover my entire trip. It was only after my purchase that I learned the insurance was only valid for 48 hours, contrary to the 90 days I had been led to expect. When I reached out to the insurance provider, they informed me that this limitation occurred because I didn't book a return ticket, which was never clearly communicated at the time of purchase. I feel misled and deceived. After further investigation, I found numerous other customers reporting similar concerns with this insurance provider. I am extremely disappointed. I would advise against this insurance.
