A NIGHTMARE

This Company is so bad. As an owner you have very few information on the guests, no copy of ID, no postal address once somebody want to book your property. Most of time there is no review as guests when they have a bad review register otherwise... they don't follow the identity of the guests ...they can register again and again... even if they are really bad!!!You don't know who is coming in your property, you don't even have all the names of all the guests... so Airbnb just ask you to say "YES" to your guests without any informations. Once the booking is accepted, most of the time guests are reluctant to give more information , even just a copy of ID or the postal address. Also you don't have any contract signed by the guests, if you have pb with him, it's complicated to call Airbnb. By experience I called them one time when a guest did not come for check out and did not give back my keys... the answer of the call center was "I have to close this phone call because you don't give me the right 4 last digit of your bank account number" which BTW was right... I had my bank statement in front of me with the credit transaction AIRBNB...Anyway no help at all from Airbnb , when you have a pb, don't count on them... no help at all... and they have the deposit ... so if you need to be reimburse of damages by the deposit ... just nothing, no contract, no deposit, no help from Airbnb. Very bad experience and so bad service from the inexistant "call center".I was obliged to change 2 lockers at my charge... 100$...I must say also that the most of time Airbnb provides bad people who wants travel discreetly without giving their ID and basic information about them. I had several guests visited by several prostitutes ( you always learn that later...). This never happened before with other websites... Airbnb does not care, they manage the payment and the deposit and you just have to shut your mouth...If you don't want have pb, or you care your home, believe me avoid them..

Poor service by airbnb

For all of you who are considering traveling and booking place to stay, please read following. I had recently traveled with three friends to Paris, France. First time ever we have booked an apartment through Airbnb. This is our experience and after sending this e-mail to Airbnb, I have yet to receive the response. I do not believe that they screen their landlords properly. In my previous travels I have always used House Trip and was never disappointed with them.....To whom it may concernI was one of the 4 guests registered under I..... P......My name is Sonja Ness and I was not sent an e-mail to submit my review. Never the less I would like to say a few word about Eduardo's Place at 32 Rue Montorgueil, Paris, France,Staying at Eduardo's place was, to say the least, most disappointing experience. Other then location, which was excellent, nothing else was enjoyable. Place was unclean, dirty water in the bucket from floor washing was sitting in the kitchen smelling and attracting mosquitos, dirty windows, film smudged glasses and dishes and linen did not smell like something that has been recently washed. There was no telephone except the one to answer and open door for visitors. TV did not work and neither did coffee maker. The worse part of all of this was that the apartment is flea or bed bug infested. At first we thought we were being bitten by mosquitos, but soon found out the bites were from fleas and more likely bed bugs. I, alone have at least 30 bites on my arms and just as many on my legs. This apartment should not be rented to anyone else until it is fumigated and clean. I feel that I did not get my money worth and if anything should be compensated for being exposed to such terrible conditions. First day that we arrived we have e-mailed some of our complaints to Eduardo, but in six days that we were there, we did not get any reply. The bites are still very visible on my arms and legs and if needed I will be happy to provide you with the photos of them. At present I am trying desperately to make sure I did not bring those insects into my own home. Washing everything and spraying my home is an added agrevation i did not need. I have traveled extensively and have stayed in hotels, private houses and rooms, bed and breakfast places in many different countries and cities and have never encountered conditions like this. I feel that this issue needs to be addressed immediately as to prevent other visitors from same terrible experience. I am so upset with this that i will be posting my experience on social media to worn other travellers. I do hope that you will, as well, address this problem with the owner of above property.Sincerely Sonja Ness

Buyer beware

I had used Airbnb twice in Iowa and Quebec City and had good experiences. Then I booked near Santa Monica, and a week before the host cancelled because it turns out that he wasn't given permission to host from his landlord. However, he still allowed us to stay there, and he and his wife were very nice. However, we weren't aware that they had 2 babies who woke us up 2 times in the middle of the night. Luckily, the next 2 nights they left, and we had the whole house to ourselves. In addition, be very very weary of the prices! We thought that we were paying $44 a night for another place, a different time, but I didn't know that a host can have "smart pricing", and charge additional amounts for each guest after the first guest, plus with Airbnb's fees, it came to $110 a night!!! I think I might stick to Priceline.com, or Expedia.com.

Airbnb's model is custom made for scammers.

We booked and confirmed for a 2BR in midtown Vancouver (1028 Barclay Street) 4 months in advance. All fine except the host told us she did not have "front desk" priveleges and access would be via the side entrance. Mmmmmmm. Hosts name was Ashleigh P.A few weeks before leaving for Vancouver I noticed her listing had disappeared from Airbnb. I messaged her and she said she had had to take it down. Too many requests. Mmmmmmm. She replied using the name Nicole P.One week before leaving for Vancouver I contacted Airbnb to discuss my rising doubts. I was told there was no need to worry. They were confident all was above board. Mmmmmmm. Why were they so dismissive?5 days before arriving I get a message reminding me she had no "contract" with the management at her condo for concierge services so she would meet me personally to let me in and show me around. Mmmmmm.0830 on the morning of the booking I am boarding a plane to fly to Vancouver and I get a text saying to meet her at an address 38 Smithe Street Vancouver. Mmmmmmmm. WHAT?I called Nicole/Ashleigh and she tells me she cannot now provide the promised apartment as her access pass had been blocked but she has "moved us" to a 1BR in a different area of town. She is not prepared to explain or "argue with you about this". The booking is changed and she has no obligation to do more. What transpired is that she was (sub) letting an apartment illegally in a building and that the owner/building management had blocked her access. She had been doing it successfully for some time and had good reviews but now was caught out and barred. Obviously the assurance she had given Airbnb was falsified. When I raised this with Airbnb they said "we have hundreds of thousands of hosts. We can't verify all their claims". Airbnb cancelled the booking and helped us find another that we had to accept with just 4 hours notice. It was a long bus ride out if town and is on a very busy highway. Our holiday is completely ruined. What us my complaint? Airbnb say Nicole told them she had a last minute hiccup and they accepted her excuse. They agreed it was unacceptable but they had absolutely no plan to do anything other than help me find alternative accomodation: she was a successful host (aka she made big $ for Airbnb). I was told this really did not happen often and I was unlucky. I was told 4 times that Airbnb took great care to look after their customers and that my experience was unusual. The bottom line is that Airbnb will keep Nicole/Ashleigh. She is a valuable source of income to them. They understand what has happened but if she tells them she is OK to offer an apartment then they will take her word for it. Airbnb's model is set up to facilitate scamming and they know that and believe that they can "manage" victims when they emerge. It's a buyer beware portal. So BEWARE.

BEWARE OF POLICIES IF YOU ARE A GUEST

So.....you are entirely insane if you book a place that has a "we can cancel for any reason at any point and leave you high and dry" policy. No amount of savings in the world can make up for what I just went through.1. Booked a place, charged my credit card, communicated with the owner and waited for a couple months for festival wkd.2. With 1 week before departure...I get an FREAKING EMAIL saying "reservation cancelled by host". NO explanation and not one single text, call or reason from the host. It was automated (and the host has never responded).3. It's festival wkd and literally there are NO places around . All hotels sold out ...I mean worst wkd to try to find something unless you stay about 45 minutes out of the City.4. Airbnb gave me a SMALL credit. Which btw means nothing if you can't find anywhere to stay. Over 2 days and over 10hrs of work we are staying in different hotels each night (cause no one has more than 1 night) and we are paying a huge premium.5. Now here is the fun part. We also had several Airbnb people still advertising their units on the site WHILE they were booked with other people to try to get premiums from people like us. Meaning....they were willing to cancel reservations with others if we paid double or in one case triple their advertised rate. CAN YOU IMAGINE. We couldn't do that to someone.6. AirBNB would not explain to me why the person cancelled on us. Nor would they let us give them a poor rating. And they saw what others were doing to us and they didn't once police the people. They just allow this to happen. ......never ever ever again would I risk what we've just gone through. AirBNB has no policies what so ever about cancelling on guests so you really have to ask if it's worth it if you are leaving even the day before and someone can cancel cause someone else offered to pay more. ***Horrid****

Great concept - fantastic execution

I'm a huge believer in AirBnB. Putting aside all the wider issues of "should people be allowed to rent out their homes?", AirBnB as a company do a brilliant job of facilitating the connections. The website is one of the most fluent and seamless user experiences I can think of. It's so intuitive, and flexible enough to let me tailor bookings to individual days. When I travel, AirBnB is usually the first place I look for a place to stay. I've booked around 20 nights in 13 different cities over the last couple of years and although every stay is different (by the very nature of the site this has to be expected), they've all been positive. As a host, I've only had 1 negative experience, and this was with the guest, not with AirBnB. In fact AirBnB stepped up and assigned someone to the problem ASAP, were professional and quick to give us assistance, and thankfully, none of it was necessary because it all worked out in the end. What we thought was a fraudulent booking turned out to just be a guest who wasn't very computer-literate. I don't understand why someone would pay more to book a hotel, when they could have a fully serviced apartment, and all the perks that go with it. I think AirBnB would always be my first choice for holiday-stays, and renting an apartment out with AirBnB has been a great income as well.

Trading your own safety for a few bucks

We booked an apartment in Paris last June with 300+ good reviews. Long story short. Our room was raided (by someone who had the key to our room), it was a highly secured building windows and doors were locked when we came back. To our surprises, our belongings were misplaced, so we checked our money hidden in our bags, and found that at least 300 EUROS were missing.
We reported to the host and airbnb, host continued to deny it. We never got a reply from airbnb after reporting to them, we kept calling and e-mailing them, all we heard form airbnb was "another department is investigating the incident". After two weeks of phone and e-mail tags with airbnb, they finally told us to negotiate directly with the host for compensation. They said there's nothing they can do, since airbnb is a third party.
Obviously, host did not respond. We wrote a review stating our money was missing during our stay. The review was immediately deleted.

Case mangers really bad at investigating an communicating information

Had delt with air bnb multiple times customer service reps are great.
however case mgrs are not to easy to talk to they have and intend to keep the agenda of keeping revnue for airbnb. I had spoke with one case mgr Alexandra G. he kept interuptioing me and wanted to end the phone call_ he was not intrested in resolving and issues or acting as a mediator for anyone. dispointed that he could have a postion as a case manger.
I will no longer do business with Air bnb. Home Away has much better policy protecting both customer and owner.
respectfully
Brian

Airbnb is for scam artists

I booked an apartment in Paris recently and communicated well by mobile, e-mail and the Airbnb site until about 2 hours before my arrival, which was pre-arranged with the host. Suddenly, he powered off his mobile, didn't answer e-mail and generally went missing. I couldn't reach anyone at Airbnb. There we were on the sidewalk waiting for him but he didn't show. Late in the day, I get an SMS saying he had tried to reach me, which was untrue. In the meantime, it being late in the day, I booked into a nearby hotel. I complained to Airbnb who simply said, it's up to the two of you. Of course, my host laughed all the way to the bank, having pocketed all the money except for about 20%. Airbnb got their cut. I didn't get the apartment and lost all my money. Airbnb is for scam artists.
