Terrible service. They really do not care about their customers booking the trips. We had a huge problem with the place when we arrived. Firstly, it took me an hour trying to find how to send AirBnb a message. Then it took a whole day for them to get back to me. And they never were able to resolve the issue anyway saying that their policy does not allow them to talk to me only to the person who originally booked the place. I am waiting for any other service to take over, because AirBnb is terrible.
I would give it a zero if I could, I had a previus bad experience and didn't say anything, but I recently booked a place in corner brook and had to go through hell to finalize the deal, then I had to cancel because of medical reasons, I was on the phone for 2 hours trying to cancel, and then they were still gonna charge me, the rate was $73 , total price $84 , for Airbnb getting their share, Today finally I got my refun of $73 with Airbnb keeping their share up ti the $84, damn crooks, I will never again book with them and I will never recommend anyone doing so, the company is a total rip off.
First, I would be giving this review 0 stars if I could, but TrustPilot doesn’t give me that option. My daughter booked a Dacoh three-bedroom apartment via Airbnb for a family reunion, which turned into a nightmare. The cost was over $9,000 for 11 nights. The listing online showed three double bedrooms. Upon arriving at the apartment after a long flight from London, to our horror, we discovered that the one of the bedrooms did not have any windows, just a piece of glass to give a photographic appearance of a window. Another bedroom had a window boarded up. So, in fact, what was advertised as three bedrooms, only had one habitable bedroom and we couldn’t possibly stay. My daughter was flying in the next day, so we contacted her to explain the situation and tell her the Airbnb listing was misleading and we couldn’t stay there. We asked her to cancel the booking because the apartment could not fit all five members of the family due to the lack of habitable bedrooms. My daughter promptly contacted Dacoh to notify them that the bedrooms were not habitable and requested a refund due to the fact she had booked a three-bedroom apartment and this clearly was not. After we left, Dacoh sent her pictures of the window that had been boarded up opened, stating that the apartment now has two bedrooms with windows. They later admitted that they had removed the boards to take the pictures. Despite my daughter’s efforts to point out Dacoh were in breach of local laws mandating what could be considered a habitable bedroom and, further, in breach of fire regulations, they persisted in saying that the booking could only be cancelled with a 100% cancellation charge. My daughter then tried to enlist the help from Airbnb but they were anything but helpful. They didn’t try to mediate a resolution between the parties and seemed only interested in taking their cut. To this day, we do not know if they verify if accommodations are fit for purpose or that the tenant had a tourist permit- this would enable us to know that it was a legitimately operated business and this would be fit for purpose. We asked for permission to take a surveyor to look at the property as the credit card company would help if we got an independent surveyor. Not only did Dacoh refuse, but Airbnb also did not lift a finger to make it happen. After the lack of assistance from Dacoh and their continued rejection that they were in any way at fault, we were told that we had to communicate with the Airbnb Trip Experience Team who, we were advised, would handle the matter and investigate the problems. Airbnb were just as unhelpful as Dacoh and would not investigate the fact that a property was being let on their website which was in breach of the Construction Code leadings guests to be mislead. In order to resolve this matter independently, my daughter has unfortunately had to take legal proceedings on both Airbnb and Dacoh.I highly recommend that, when using Airbnb, you apply the principle of ‘caveat emptor’ (let the buyer be aware) as, it would appear from their behaviour in this case, they are only there to protect the property owners and not the guests.
WARNING for Canadians. AirBnB now takes an additional 30% USD from your rental income and submits to the US Government. So you're getting double taxed - AirBnB forces you to pay the 30% tax by taking it off any rental income you earn. Then you have to declare that income in Canada and pay tax again. They don't tell you this upfront so it's a shock. I thought I had $600 coming to me and inquired when I just got $400. AirBnB told me after that fact and said sorry - not our problem.
The website is great to find host all around the world. We have use it I think almost 20 times, the booking is easy, sometimes there is discount for a week stay, some useful filters (breakfast, kitchen, wifi...). Once our host ( not Airbnb) cancelled our stay in New York one week before we arrive, we were disapointed, but Airbnb was quick to give our money back, they even give us a 26€ voucher. You just have to be sure about the host, read the reviews, check if you are allowed to cancel and everything will be fine!
A bad company. They made a problem due to their software and cost me loose two reservations. I mentioned to them their error, they denied. I proved them through screen shots, now they agreed that it was their software error. I asked them to pay me the loss of gain, 270$, they refused. I told them I'll switch to an honest company. I knew from Airbnb client service that the company is is Asia and using USA phone number !!!!!!!!! They refused to specify which country, no answer from them, may be in India? Am not sure.
Airbnb Canada lists their prices in CAD on Airbnb.ca then with no warning bills are generated in US and most notices do not show usd. This Canadian listing on a Canadian website should not involve billing in US dollars which is both very confusing and generates exchange costs not reflected in the website advertising. Airbnb were unapologetic and will continue in the same vein despite the confusion and added cost to customers.
I cancelled my reservation to Kingston 10 days before the check-in date and did not even receive a full refund or a 50% refund. I had a bad accident and broke my ankle three months prior and thought I would be walking by then, but when I started my physiotherapy and they advised me that I would still not be walking, that's when I cancelled my reservation. I went through the "extenuating circumstances policy", provided my surgeon's opinion in a two page form, my disability insurance letter, pictures of my foot and my surgeon... Only to be told that my case did not qualify and only provided me with a refund of $41 CAD and a credit for a future reservation. I don't want a credit, I just told them that I am unable to walk for who knows how long.
Airbnb was rude about helping us with refund fir bed bugs. Host lied and said they didn’t exist. She was infested. She was more concerned about her rating than bed bugs. Airbnb deleted my first email to them and my first request to host fir refund. Then said I hadn’t responded in time. They also said I should have stayed in the infested dump until host could fix problem. Told them to csnvrl all further reservations snd give me refund. I was done. The host is at 2 Rue Malherbe in Nantes. Avoid like the plague.
Two friends and I came to Ottawa for a mini vacation and booked an Airbnb through Airbnb.ca. It was our first time doing so, and we thought the website seemed good to go through to find accommodation. However, upon arriving to Ottawa we found that our host wasn’t responding to our messages, there was no key available to our unit, and he had given us the wrong phone number. We called Airbnb support for help and they were wonderful. They gave us a 10% credit and helped us find a new place to stay. They also paid for us to go for dinner, and when we had an issue with payment going through, they put us up in a hotel for the night. It took a while to get the new accomodation, but Airbnb was incredibly helpful throughout the whole process.
