I recently rented a car from Avis at Barcelona Airport and unfortunately had a very bad experience.
I returned the vehicle with a full fuel tank, as required in the rental agreement. There is a fuel station located approximately 5 kilometres from the airport, where I filled the tank just before returning the car. Despite this, I was later charged around €40 for fuel.
I find this charge completely unfair and unjustified. I made sure to return the car with a full tank, and I fulfilled my obligations as a customer. This situation is very disappointing and frankly quite upsetting, as I expected better service and transparency from a company like AVIS.
I hope this issue can be reviewed and resolved properly.

Was booked as an airport hire but it was not at the airport a mini bus took us to location. We were given a car and went off by the time we arrived to our location the tyre was flat. We changed tyre and hardly used the car when we went back we explained it was already a flat tyre but they took £270 of our deposit. I would never use and do not trust maybe cheap but they are a scam.
Hired a car from Avis Tenerife south. The transportation time and collection times were too long. The car had not been cleaned and was dirty. During the hire the car had an oil error, road side assistance were called and advise I had to go back to the hire company to exchange the car. I tried to contact Avis but despite a considerable time phoning them, there was no answer. The oil error light went out for a while, but subsequently came back again.I complained but got a whitewash response saying they accept it was wrong but unlucky. Wouldn’t use them again
*** UPDATE ***In December (4 months after the rental) I was billed £750 in damages. I paid this and was able to reclaim it from my insurers. However yesterday I received another email from Avis detailing another £500 charges for the same damage. Queried this immediately but have had no response as usual. Have had to contact my bank to get them to put a stop on the CPA. Avis seem to be running some kind of ripoff business model. AVOID.
After a weeks rental in fuerteventura I was charged an additional 25€ for the car to be cleaned. After paying the rental fee and being convinced to take out extra insurance at arrivals i find this ludicrous. Will not use this company again
I am an Avis Preferred customer and usually complete everything online to ensure a smooth and efficient pickup. Unfortunately, my recent experience at Avis Tenerife South was very disappointing.Despite having finalized my booking in advance, I was kept waiting at the counter even though I had a scheduled commitment and needed to leave on time. In addition, extra insurance products (LDW and Windscreen Protection) were added and charged without my clear request or informed consent.I clearly stated that everything had already been arranged online and that I did not require additional coverage, as I am insured through my credit card. These services were not properly explained as optional. I was told I needed to sign in order to receive the vehicle key, which left me feeling pressured into accepting charges for a service I did not request.Being delayed and charged for something I did not authorize does not reflect the level of professionalism and transparency I expect from Avis, especially as a Preferred customer.I hope management reviews internal procedures to ensure transparency, proper consent, and respectful treatment of customers’ time.
This is sold as an on airport rental when it is in fact 10 minutes off of the airport. If you hit this at the wrong time you could be waiting for the mini bus for a very long time. When I travel to Lanzarote again there is no way I would use these. If you like a smooth transaction with minimal fuss avoid. If I had known I would never have booked via them. Horrendous experience.
