Did not receive product or updates

I ordered a birthday gift on October 17, a week before the event. The company took payment on the 21st, but I have received no communication. They claim not to handle phone inquiries. This feels suspicious. No product, no updates, yet they took my money? Later, the recipient received the package, and I finally got a shipping update, but they never updated the tracking. Other companies keep customers informed.
