Absolute bait-and-switch scam. Avoid this company.
I was originally quoted $611 over the phone, but once the movers arrived the price suddenly jumped to $2,800. When I questioned the increase, the movers threatened to take my belongings to storage and charge me a daily storage fee if I didn’t pay the full $2,800 upfront. I was told they would not unload my items unless payment was made immediately, leaving me with no real choice after everything was already on their truck.
This move was only 6 miles, from a storage locker in Lisle to my home in Downers Grove, IL. The crew insisted on rewrapping nearly everything due to “company policy,” even after I told them not to, while simultaneously limiting their liability coverage. The same items had been moved into storage earlier that month by Two Men and a Truck without any issues.
I was also charged $100 for treadmill disassembly, despite the treadmill still being fully assembled in my garage today.
The company later falsely claimed I only disclosed five boxes, which is completely inaccurate — I fully described the contents of the storage unit beforehand. Instead of attempting to resolve the situation, I later received a threatening letter from their legal department.
This was one of the most stressful and dishonest service experiences I’ve ever had. I strongly recommend avoiding this company.

I hired them with a 260 deposit for an hour and 68 more dollars when they got to my place. I said an hour because I only had a bed a dresser a TV and a marble sculpture. I first spoke with Angelo and I said if I need to extend the time it will be within my budget. The thugs came to move but right away they said I have to pay the remainder of the cost. So they said I owe 149. That made the move 410 dollars. I called the office and they said that's the price. I didn't have a choice. I gave them my debit card and my ID. I talked to the office maybe 10 minutes disputing the cost. Then the rude movers were in the hall. They came back in and said we have to hurry we have 20 minutes. They hadn't moved one thing yet. I said what do you mean 20 minutes. They don't let anyone know they start the minute they arrive. They ended up moving my bed, the dresser and a marble sculpture. For 410 dollars. The complaint department of course turned it all on me just like everyone's complaints. The BBB has like 6 pages all getting scammed like everyone else. Their responses are all lies. Stay away from this company. I don't know how they're still in business
This company does not care about you or your belongings. DO NOT hire them.I don’t write reviews, ever. But I do have to warn you about this moving company. We were quoted for a 3 hour job, with two men, at under $700. When we were getting our quote, I mentioned that we were moving into an apartment with no elevator on the second floor. Not ideal, but straightforward enough, right? Wrong. They arrived early when I specifically told them not to. They misquoted us - the movers said our quote mentioned we had an elevator when we didn’t, and that we were closer from the alley to our door than we were. They gave us two men for the job when - in the words of one of their own movers “this [was] definitely a 3-4 mover job.” They were extremely slow, taking twice the amount of time to load the truck from our Uhaul Pods than it took us to initially pack our pods ourselves when we moved out of our last home (they didn’t even pack up a house, it was already packed FOR THEM!!!)After an hour of being at our apartment, they had moved up no more than 5 items into our apartment. I assume they were chatting/pouting about the lack of elevator for the first hour - as nothing at all was getting done. After two hours, they had brought up maybe 10 items. Because we were anxious about the hefty charge for going over quote (it had already been 4 hours) we decided to step in and got 3x the total amount of items up the stairs and into our apartment ourselves within 45 mins than they did in 2 hours. They cartwheeled (flipped) our wood dresser up the stairs. When they placed it inside our apartment, they left it on its side (horizontal dresser sticking straight up in the air) and unwrapped it - subsequently leaving all the garbage from their padding/wrapping on the floor. They were overtly careless with our items. They banged our tv off the brick wall in the alley and dropped a box clearly marked as fragile, breaking 5/6 our my great grandmas antique glass plates - which were priceless to us. We did sign a liability waiver, but the movers were assigned were negligent and careless. It looked like they had not worked this job a day in their lives. We’d had enough after another hour. I told them to get our things OUT of their truck and into the alley in the middle of Chicago. We would be moving the rest ourselves. And we did.WE WERE CHARGED $1968.89 TO MOVE OURSELVES IN.I called Coffey Bros after our move to discuss with them the experience and all that went wrong. They told me to write an email to the claims department, and I did. They sent back a form to complete - only to submit a claim for the broken items. I assume it was automated, because if they were to have read the entirety of my email, they would know that I signed a liability waiver prior to the move. There was an option to schedule a call with them to discuss the claims process within their email, so I opted for it. I wanted to explain to them that we did not want reimbursement for our items, but rather reimbursement for the time we were charged because these movers did not complete their job. We moved ourselves in.They never called. After a month of me calling and them saying that their claims department was “out of office” or “unavailable” and promising I would get a call back by end of day or before the end of the week (never got a call back, ever) they emailed me a form with an offer of a $50 reimbursement. The catch - to sign a waiver stating that I would not “publicly defame” their company on any online forums/social media. I refused to sign, obviously.I am so disappointed in Coffey Bros and their carelessness towards their customers. No apologies, no accountability, nothing. $50 and a form for me to sign so I wouldn’t share my experience. AVOID AVOID AVOID and hire a professional company, I promise it’s worth circumventing a situation like this.
This was hands down the WORST experience I have ever had with a moving company. They are dishonest, unprofessional, and manipulative. There are hidden fees, shady tactics, and absolutely no accountability. They were scheduled to arrive at 8:00 AM — they didn’t show up until 10:05 AM. Once they arrived, they took a few photos, borrowed my broom, and then disappeared downstairs until 11:02 AM, doing absolutely nothing. My items were already packed, broken down, and sitting in the living room — all they had to do was load the truck. But they moved incredibly slowly, took excessive breaks, and dragged out the process so badly that my elderly mother and I had to start carrying boxes ourselves just to speed things up.They were clearly trying to run up the clock — and they succeeded. We ended up being charged $1,455 based on a quote for 8 hours of work, even though the actual work they performed took 4 hours or less, with unloading done in just 45 minutes. Worst of all, they didn’t even move everything. We had to go back to the old apartment and finish packing and moving items ourselves because they left things behind! When I called to dispute the charge, I spoke with someone named Ernest, who claimed to be the manager. He was aggressive, rude, and dismissive, telling me that if I didn’t pay, he would have the movers leave my things in the street. Then he hung up on me. When I called back, no one answered. One of the movers told me Ernest told them not to answer my calls.Even more suspicious: I believe I spoke to the same person using different names. The voices of "Eric," "Erin," and "Ernest" all sounded identical. I honestly believe it was the same man playing different roles — another layer of their scam.Eventually, I gave in and agreed to pay, just to get my belongings inside. Eric originally told me I could pay by credit card, but then Ernest (again, calling from the movers’ phone) said I had to pay via Cash App or Zelle — services with no buyer protection. One mover admitted they do this intentionally so customers can’t dispute the charge later. When they finally unloaded the truck, they threw items randomly into the house — nothing was placed in the correct rooms. The movers told me Ernest instructed them to unload quickly and leave because they had another job to get to.I called the police, and even the responding officer said he would never use this company. Unfortunately, because Ernest falsely claimed their card machine was “down,” the officer said it was a civil issue, not a criminal one.Bottom line: This company is a scam operation. They wasted my time, scammed me out of $1,455, didn’t even complete the move, and treated me with total disrespect. They operate under multiple fake names, use untraceable payment methods, and manipulate customers into paying without recourse.DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Save yourself the stress, the money, and the emotional toll. Go with a legitimate, reputable mover that actually values integrity and customer service.
Choose Coffey Bros if you want to pay 30% more than their estimate and have the distinct honor of wondering where your belongings—and your sanity—have gone.I consider my experience with Coffey Bros less a mover/customer relationship and more a twisted social experiment in patience, endurance, stress management, deceitful pricing practices, and Kafkaesque bureaucracy. If you want to give your moving company a complete and accurate inventory, pack everything yourself, and have the company still somehow manage to inflate the bill by more than 30% of what they quoted, then I come with good news— there’s a mover for you.Choose Coffey Bros if you’re into horror-movie level Claims Departments. In my experience, their Claims department is more of a myth than an actual department. They never answered phones, never responded to emails with any semblance of timeliness, and definitely never would agree to escalate a claim, no matter the severity. They seem to specialize in ignoring well-documented damage, even when you buy their insurance and diligently document the scope of their mistakes. So if denial seems like a customer service strategy that you’d prefer to find yourself on the receiving end of, then guess what— we just found your mover.Choose Coffey Bros if you enjoy ransom demands on your belongings. They held my items hostage and refused to unload from their truck until I paid for the entire move up front. This total amount included artificially-inflated and unsubstantiated charges for unloading time that they significantly overestimated—and then never reimbursed.Choose Coffey Bros if you’re interested in working with a moving company that sets the bar at merely showing up.Coffey Bros guarantees they show up— in my case, it was six hours after the arrival window, leaving me and my 8-month pregnant wife in a house with no furniture, waiting for hours without any proactive updates. The office had no idea where their own trucks were driving.Choose Coffey Bros if you like your complaints carbon-copied to 20+ other furious customers so you can bond over shared trauma.Overwhelmed by her workload, the claims manager CC’d me on a message to over 20 other customers filing claims. Reading those emails was like discovering a support group you never wanted to join. But I did learn that my horror story is just one chapter in a very long and devastating epic of incompetence, deception, and damage (both emotional and literal). So if you’re the type that may be interested in lighting your money on fire and pushing your possessions down a hill, you might be interested in choosing Coffey Bros. At least then you’ll know where the damage came from.PS – I did file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, where Coffey Bros enjoys a one-star rating. For the damage to my floors, my walls, and my personal property, and for all that my family endured in our at-every-moment agonizing dealings with this company, they offered $300 for relief and my eternal vow of silence. This review may serve as evidence that I am (just a little) more expensive.
Please consider ALL other options before selecting Coffey Bros Moving! They charged me almost $3000 to move my furniture from a 1170 Sq Ft ranch home, to a home 6 miles away! The representative, Devon Cevatli, presented professionally and very nice, prior to getting my deposit and signature on the moving agreement. Afterward he seemed temperamental and rude during subsequent conversations about the move. On moving day, Coffey Bros added charges that their own employees stated they had not seen added to any other client before! The lead guy contacted the office for me to inquire about the unexpected additional charges, and everyone that I spoke with was exceptionally rude! It was obvious to me that this was a common practice for Coffey Bros. The movers held my furniture hostage on the truck, refusing to unload until I paid. Finally, to add insult to injury, I noticed that my jewelry box was missing and contacted the police. Needless to say, I do not recommend this company!
These are the movers from hell. Nightmarish. I had to have everything moved out of the property within 3 days bottom line. There were large items like a king size bed that they refused to move. Another single bedframe that I had to bribe them to move and then they dumped it in the driveway of the destination. They quoted me $2500 and charged over $9000. They damaged the new floor I'd just put in and some furniture made me wait a month after submitting a claim by email and when their representative was scheduled to come out he was a no show.
