Disappointing Experience After Many Years

I’ve celebrated New Year's Eve at this establishment for the last decade. However, last night we encountered significant delays, seemingly due to insufficient staffing. We observed other patrons leaving mid-meal, while many voiced their frustrations about the long waits. One group even took their dessert wrapped in cling film. Despite paying a premium price for standard offerings, we waited 25 minutes just for a glass of water before our orders were taken. When the main courses finally arrived, they appeared to have been sitting in a warming tray for too long, resulting in dried-out food. The pre-meal snacks, which were part of the special menu, were served alongside our starters, and we didn’t receive a wine list until after we had finished our starters. I must commend our waitress, who handled the situation exceptionally well and remained professional despite the challenges. She faced several customers refusing to pay the service charge for issues beyond her control. As guests left, there were not enough staff to clear tables, leaving us amidst dirty plates and cutlery, which certainly diminished the festive atmosphere and hindered the restaurant's ability to welcome new customers. I’m very disappointed after past experiences, and as a regular patron of this chain, I need to reconsider my loyalty.

Disappointing Christmas Day Dinner Experience

Typically, the service is satisfactory, especially for breakfast. However, my visit to a location for Christmas Day dinner was a letdown (costing nearly £90). While the staff was friendly, the food was dreadful—definitely the worst Christmas dinner I've ever had. The starter, a goat’s cheese and beetroot dish, looked unappetizing, reminiscent of baby food or something a pet might reject. The taste matched its appearance, and I could barely manage a few bites. The main course, turkey ballotines, arrived lukewarm and was cold by the time I finished. The potato rostis were burnt, and the Christmas pudding was served cold, incredibly dense, and dry, with some shavings that didn’t help at all. The mince pie and cappuccino at the end were the only redeeming aspects, but I was eager to leave.

No Return Planned

My daughter and I visited Côte in Solihull for a pre-theatre meal. The service was good, and the food was enjoyable, but the drinks were overpriced. We never received the requested jug of water, which was puzzling. The cappuccinos were undrinkable—no chocolate topping, lukewarm, and extremely weak. My daughter asked me not to make a fuss, so I didn't drink mine, which cost £3.80! The total bill was £92 for one shared starter, two mains, three cokes, one wine spritzer, one dessert, and two terrible coffees.

Consistently Excellent Dining Experience

Having visited the establishment multiple times, I feel compelled to share my positive experiences, especially given the recent negative feedback from others. We dined there for lunch, and as a retired chef with extensive experience in catering, I found the experience to be remarkably enjoyable. The staff were friendly and attentive, even with the restaurant at full capacity. The food was absolutely delightful and offered at a very reasonable price. I would return in an instant. I encourage you to give it a try; I’m confident you won't be disappointed. While I can't speak for every restaurant in the group, I have dined at a couple of others and found them to be quite good as well.

Côte at Sloan Square in London

We've visited Côte at Sloan Square several times, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts as it has recently received some negative feedback. We dined there for lunch, and as a retired chef with extensive experience in catering, I can confidently say my experience was very positive. The staff were friendly and attentive, even with a full house. The food was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced, making me eager to return at any moment. I encourage you to give it a try; I believe you won't be disappointed. While I can't speak for other locations in the group, I've dined at a couple and found them to be good as well.

Change in Experience at Côte

I've always enjoyed Côte over the years, but my recent experience was a bit disappointing. We booked for 2:30 and upon arrival, we were informed it would be a 15-minute wait for the main restaurant, or we could sit at a table by the door, which I accepted due to time constraints. The staff attending to us were courteous, but we were also served by a man in a puffer jacket who looked out of place, and another staff member was seen with headphones on. While the food was good, the menu seemed less varied, and we couldn't find a set lunch option. I’m unlikely to return.

Disappointment at Côte Cheltenham

My friend and I were quite let down during our recent visit to Côte Cheltenham. We arrived for our 6:00pm reservation to find the restaurant very quiet, but the service was disorganized from the start. The staff seemed more focused on preparing for a large party arriving later than attending to the few guests already there. To streamline things, we ordered our desserts at the beginning of the meal, yet after our mains were cleared, a waiter still approached us asking if we wanted to order dessert. There was a lack of communication among the staff, leading to confusion and delays. After 25 minutes, we received two desserts, but they were not what we ordered. The waiter even suggested we must have made a mistake, despite having clearly stated our order. After further delays, a manager informed us for the first time that the dessert we wanted was unavailable. We had to request a refund for the dessert we never received, only to be told it couldn't be processed on-site. We were advised to contact head office, which was inconvenient given our time constraints. What should have been a relaxing pre-Christmas gathering was marred by poor communication, slow service, and a lack of accountability. Unfortunately, this experience did not meet the standards we expected from Côte, and we have yet to hear back after submitting a complaint online.

First Visit to Côte Bath Disappointment

Our first visit to Côte Bath was underwhelming, especially considering the promised voucher for two free glasses of fizz turned out to be pointless. We made a reservation for 1:15, and by that time, they had already run out of fizz. Instead, we were offered two glasses of poor-quality rosé in very small quantities. The waiting staff were friendly, but the supervisor on our floor seemed disinterested, lacking the cheerful service we hoped for. We won't be dining there again.

Lunch Disappointment

I went for lunch today and chose the Christmas menu at £47, which included a glass of fizz. I'm really disappointed; the portions were smaller than expected. I didn't enjoy the starter, which was chevre with beetroot—it looked unappealing and was quite small. The steak I had was average, and I was surprised to find there was an additional £8 charge for it. My dessert was also disappointing—a small chocolate sponge served with a tiny amount of cream and berry compote. My friend and I ended up paying over £60 each (not including drinks, just water), which is quite a lot for me. I won't be returning; it's a shame, as my previous visit was lovely and the price was justified.
